On Friday, August 16, heightened tensions erupted in Nashik, Jalgaon, and Aurangabad following protests organised by the Sakal Hindu Samaj over the ongoing persecution of Hindus in Bangladesh. The protests, aimed at condemning the violence against Hindus and the vandalism of temples in Bangladesh, encountered significant resistance, leading to a series of violent incidents and challenges.
Nashik: Shutdown and Clashes
In Nashik, a district-wide shutdown was called by the Sakal Hindu Samaj in response to the reported attacks on Hindus and the destruction of temples in Bangladesh. The violence in Bangladesh, which has seen numerous attacks on the Hindu community and the defacement of places of worship, has sparked outrage among local Hindu groups.
The shutdown received substantial support in various areas of Nashik, including Nashik Road, Subhash Road, Deolali Gaon Station Road, Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Road, Chhatrapati Shivaji Putala Chowk, Bitco Chowk, Muktidham, Jail Road, and Sinnar Phata. Many shops and businesses in these areas remained closed, with Hindu society workers on motorcycles actively urging shopkeepers to shut down their operations. In some instances, businesses were forcibly closed by these workers.
Update: the clash in Nashik happened after a bike rally brought out by Hindu groups encountered resistance, leading to a violent face-off and stone pelting in the Bhadrakali area.

The situation escalated in the Bhadrakali area, where protests turned violent. Clashes between demonstrators and opposing groups led to stone pelting, further aggravating the unrest. Senior Police Inspector Ashok Giri from Nashik Road Police Station and Senior Police Inspector Jitendra Sapkale from the Suburban Police Station were deployed to manage the situation and implement strict security measures to prevent further violence.
Jalgaon: Vehicle Showroom Attack
Tensions also flared in Jalgaon, North Maharashtra, where a similar protest march organised by the Sakal Hindu Samaj resulted in an attack on a vehicle showroom. Stones were thrown at the showroom during the protest, contributing to the escalating unrest in the city. The protest in Jalgaon, aimed at denouncing the atrocities against Hindus in Bangladesh, faced resistance and violence from opposing factions.

Aurangabad: Controversial Remarks Fuel Unrest
In Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar, formerly known as Aurangabad, tensions were further inflamed by remarks made by preacher and religious scholar Ramgiri Maharaj. Maharaj’s statements, which were allegedly offensive towards Prophet Mohammed, have exacerbated religious sentiments and contributed to the ongoing unrest in the region.
