The protests against the government in Bangladesh have spiralled into a wave of violence targeting the Hindu community. Hindu temples, homes, and businesses have been attacked and destroyed by rampaging Islamists. Amid this turmoil, a harrowing video showing the extreme brutality inflicted on Hindus has gone viral.

The video captures a gruesome scene where Islamists are seen surrounding a deceased man lying on the ground. Blood pools around his head and his hands are bound. The crowd, using a stick, strips the body naked and checks the victim’s private parts for circumcision. The group erupts in laughter as they identify the man as Hindu due to his lack of circumcision.

The scene is marked by shouts of “Hindu, a Hindu,” highlighting the mob’s cruel satisfaction in their identification of the victim’s religion.

This disturbing video has been removed from various social media platforms, including X (formerly Twitter), where it was briefly shared by an Organiser correspondent before being taken down without explanation. The censorship underscores the sensitive nature of platforms featuring hatred against Hindus amidst rising political turmoil in Bangladesh.

(Organiser has a copy of the video, sources have told Organiser that the video is from violence that erupted on Saturday, August 6)

The violence, which began as protests over government job reservations, has been increasingly directed at the Hindu minority. Despite Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s resignation, the attacks have persisted. The Ministry of External Affairs, led by Dr. S. Jaishankar, has expressed grave concerns over the ongoing violence against Hindus and other minorities in Bangladesh.

On August 5, 2024, reports emerged of Islamist groups attacking Hindu homes, shops, and temples under the guise of protesting against the Sheikh Hasina government. The situation has only worsened, with new incidents surfacing daily. The Bangladesh Hindu Buddhist Christian Unity Council has released a list of 54 attacks, with further reports indicating a higher number. The violence has resulted in numerous casualties, including the recent burning of a hotel that claimed 25 lives.

As the crisis continues to unfold, detailed reports and visuals of the attacks on the Hindu community are emerging, revealing the extent of the violence and the targeted persecution faced by the minority community in Bangladesh.
