In a disturbing incident in the Varanasi district, a group of miscreants attacked Kanwariyas, with the brutal assault caught on CCTV. The footage, which has rapidly spread across social media, shows the attackers chasing and beating the pilgrims. Eyewitnesses report that the assailants even tore the clothes of the Kanwariyas before fleeing the scene.

The incident came to light when the viral video footage was brought to the attention of local authorities. Despite the seriousness of the attack, the police have confirmed that no formal complaint has been lodged. Consequently, no case has been registered in any police station within the Varanasi district as of now. However, an investigation has been initiated based on the evidence from the viral footage.

Police Response and Investigation

Speaking to the media, a police spokesperson stated, “We have not received any formal complaint regarding this incident. Nonetheless, we are treating the viral CCTV footage as critical evidence and have commenced a thorough investigation. Efforts are underway to identify and apprehend the individuals involved in this attack.”

The police are scrutinizing the CCTV footage meticulously to ascertain the exact location of the incident within the district. Local residents are being questioned to gather more information and to assist in identifying the attackers.

Details from the Viral Video

An analysis of the video suggests that the attack occurred at night. The Kanwar pilgrims were seen carrying their sacred Kanwars along a road when the confrontation began. The footage reveals an initial exchange of words between the attackers and the pilgrims, which quickly escalated into violence. The video shows several youths viciously assaulting the Kanwariyas, who appeared unprepared for the sudden aggression.

Call for Action

The local community has expressed outrage over the incident, demanding swift action from the authorities. Community leaders have urged the Kanwariyas to come forward and file official complaints to ensure the perpetrators are brought to justice.

The police have assured the public that they are taking the matter seriously and are committed to resolving the case swiftly. They have appealed to anyone with additional information or who may have witnessed the incident to come forward and assist with the investigation.

As the investigation continues, the incident has sparked a broader conversation about the safety and protection of pilgrims during religious journeys.

Similar Cases From the Past

On August 3, an alarming incident was reported by Organiser which occurred in Hapur district, where Hindu pilgrims participating in the Kanwar Yatra were attacked, leading to significant unrest and police intervention. According to reports, the attackers spat on the pilgrims, threw dirty water, and pelted them with stones, prompting police action and ensuing tensions in the area.

The attack took place on Bulandshahr Road as a group of Kanwariyas, returning from Haridwar with Ganga Jal, passed by a madrasa. Witnesses reported that a group of Muslims, standing outside the madrasa, initiated the attack by spitting on the pilgrims. This act was followed by the throwing of dirty water and stones. After these acts of aggression, the attackers fled into the madrasa and locked the doors behind them.
