Two cadres of the outlawed CPI (Maoist) , carrying a bounty of Rs 2 lakh each on their heads have surrendered before the police in Sukma district of Chhattisgarh on June 28, said police. The surrendered Maoists were impressed by the rehabilitation policy of the State government and the flagship Niyad Nellanar scheme.

Roshni alias Podiyam Sukki (19) along with Nandu alias Nanda Podiyam turned themselves before the officials of the police and surrendered. The surrender took place under the flagship “Poona Narkom” (meaning new dawn in local Gondi dialect) campaign being jointly undertaken by the police and the administration in Sukma district.

Roshni, a resident of Padampara Kondare under Gadiras police station limits was a member of the People’s Liberation Guerilla Army (PLGA) party while Nandu a resident of the same locality was active as a member of platoon number 30.

The surrender occurred hours after as many as four lower-rung cadres of the banned group have also turned themselves before the Sukma police and surrendered on Friday itself. Those who laid down arms were all members of the frontal outfits and militia groups.

Nuppo Somda, a member of the Revolutionary People’s Committee (RPC) and president of Dandkaranya Adivasi Kisan Mazdoor Sangh (DAKMS), Eddo Lakhha, a member of the RPC and DAKMS, along Kunjam Lachha and Soyam Lachha, both members of the militia group surrendered before the police on Friday.

Those who have surrendered were indulged in carrying out various unlawful activities such as digging and disrupting roads, planting spike holes and hanging banners, posters on behest of the Maoist outfit.

In another related development reported from Sukma itself, a hardcore Maoist identified as Sodhi Pozza was arrested by a joint team of District Reserve Guards (DRG) and police who were out on a combing operations in the forest of Etapal area.

Pozza was reportedly involved in a firing incident under Chintagufa police station limits of Sukma in 2019. The join team has also recovered a tiffin IED from the possession of the accused who was said to be active as an militia commander in the Maoist group.

A case has been registered against the accused following which he was produced before a court and subsequently sent to jail in judicial remand. He was carrying a bounty of Rs 1 lakh on his head as announced by the State government.
