During a series of overnight encounters, two terrorists were killed along with a CRPF jawan, and six security personnel sustained injuries in two separate terror attacks in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kathua and Doda districts.

On the night of June 11 in the Doda district, terrorists launched an attack on a joint check post of the 4 Rashtriya Rifles and police on the Bhaderwah-Pathankot road, triggering a heavy shootout. Jaish-e-Mohammed-linked terror group, the Kashmir Tigers, claimed responsibility for the attack.

The target of the militants apparently was the Indian Army’s Temporary Operating Base. “In Chattergala (Doda), an exchange of fire took place. The Army’s 4 RR and the J&K Police checkpoint came under attack by terrorists. The exchange of fire is on in the area,” ADGP Jain said.

The terrorist attack took place in Kathua’s Saida Sukhal village on June 11 evening, resulting in injuries to a civilian. Following a search operation, two terrorists were killed, and efforts are underway to apprehend another holed-up terrorist suspected to have infiltrated from across the border.

Sharing details about the Kathua operation, Additional Director General of Police, Jammu zone, Anand Jain, said, “Two terrorists who appeared to be freshly infiltrated (from across the border) surfaced in Saida Sukhal village around 8 pm and asked for water from a household. The people got frightened and as soon as information was received, a police team headed by sub-divisional police officer and Station House officer rushed to the village.”

Latest developments in the incidents:

In the recent incidents, five troopers of Rashtriya Rifles and a special police officer (SPO) sustained injuries during the exchange of fire following a terrorist attack on the Army post in Doda. The injured personnel received medical treatment as they were hospitalised, and additional reinforcements were dispatched to escalate the operation against the terrorists.

In Kathua district, around 3 am, a terrorist opened fire in Saida Sukhal village, critically injuring Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) jawan Kabir Dass. He was swiftly transferred to a hospital for treatment, where he succumbed to his injuries during treatment.

Officials said the terrorists fired randomly to break the security barrier in Saida Sukhal. A senior police officer said, “Two terrorists, who appeared to have freshly infiltrated (from across the border), surfaced in the village around 8 pm.”

Top police officers, including the Additional Director General of Police (ADGP), are at the scene of the encounter in Kathua. The area has been sealed off for a thorough search from house to house, with help from the CRPF.

Two days earlier, a bus on its way to the Shiv Khori cave temple came under attack in Reasi. The terrorists opened fire after the bus driver refused to deboard the passengers but lost control and fell into the gorge, the bus company’s manager said. Ten people were killed and 41 injured in the incident. The attack was carried out on the directions of Lashkar-e-Taiba commander Abu Hamza, officials said.
