In a shocking incident in Punjab, a sword-wielding man brutally killed a woman in broad daylight on Saturday, June 8, in Phase 5 of Mohali. The gruesome murder, captured on CCTV, occurred as the woman was on her way to work.

The victim, 31-year-old Baljinder Kaur, was an employee at a private bank in Mohali. The attack happened at around 9:30 am during busy office hours. Baljinder was accompanied by two female friends when 36-year-old Sukhchain Singh, a resident of Samrala who worked at a petrol pump, suddenly appeared and assaulted her with a sword.

Despite her efforts to escape, Sukhchain relentlessly pursued and struck her multiple times. Baljinder was immediately taken to Civil Hospital Mohali, where she was pronounced dead on arrival.

CCTV footage shows Baljinder sprinting to the middle of the road with the attacker in pursuit. She stumbled in front of a pickup truck, which briefly stopped before speeding away. After the attack, Sukhchain is seen strolling nonchalantly across the road.

According to police, Sukhchain killed Baljinder because she had rejected his advances. The two had known each other for some time and had a disagreement a few days prior. Following the murder, Sukhchain attempted to flee but was involved in an accident.

He was arrested a few kilometres from the crime scene and taken for a medical examination. The police have established a “jilted lover” motive during the preliminary investigation.

Baljinder Kaur, a resident of Fatehpur Jattan village near Morinda, had been working at the bank in Phase-V for the past nine years. She used to travel by bus and then walk from the bus stop to her office. Her brother revealed that an eyewitness informed them of the attack at around 9:30 in the morning. Despite the assault happening in a busy area, no one came to her aid.

The police have registered a murder case at the Phase-1 police station, and the investigation is ongoing. The shocking incident occurred just a few kilometres from the airport, where actor-turned-MP Kangana Ranaut was attacked by CISF personnel on June 6th.

This brutal murder has raised serious concerns about public safety and the effectiveness of law enforcement in preventing such violent crimes.
