In a major political development, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has made significant strides in Odisha, breaching Naveen Patnaik’s political fort. The latest updates from the Odisha Election Results 2024 indicate a historic victory for the BJP in both the Lok Sabha and Assembly elections in the state.
The BJP is leading in an impressive 19 Lok Sabha seats and 80 Assembly seats in Odisha. On the other hand, the Biju Janata Dal (BJD), led by Naveen Patnaik, was leading in three Lok Sabha seats and 49 Assembly seats. These trends closely align with the predictions made by the News18 Mega Exit Poll, which anticipated significant gains for the BJP in Odisha.
According to the exit poll results, most of the Lok Sabha constituencies in Odisha were predicted to be won by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), while the BJD was expected to secure 6-8 seats. The poll also suggested that the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) could secure 13-15 seats out of the total 21 in the state.
However, the situation appeared different for the Odisha Assembly Elections 2024, as several exit polls predicted a hung house. According to the India Today-Axis My India exit poll, both the BJD and the BJP were expected to win an equal number of seats ranging between 62 to 80 in the 147-seat Odisha Assembly. In contrast, the Jan ki Baat exit poll projected a higher seat count for the BJD with 68-93 seats, while the BJP was predicted to win 44-72 seats in the state.
Looking back at the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, the Biju Janata Dal (BJD) emerged as the frontrunner with 12 seats, while the BJP secured 8 seats. The Congress, however, performed poorly and managed to secure just one seat.
Similarly, in the 2019 Odisha Assembly elections, the BJD secured a commanding majority with 112 seats, while the BJP won 23 seats. The Congress party won nine seats in the 2019 Assembly polls.
The elections in Odisha were conducted in four phases, spanning from May 13 to June 1, covering both the Lok Sabha and Assembly seats. These latest trends and results signify a major shift in the political landscape of Odisha, with the BJP making substantial inroads into Naveen Patnaik’s stronghold. As the final outcome unfolds, all eyes remain focused on the closely contested battle for supremacy in the state.
