Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently concluded a 45-hour meditation session at the Vivekananda Rock Memorial in Tamil Nadu’s Kanniyakumari, coinciding with the seventh and final phase of the Lok Sabha elections. The Prime Minister’s spiritual retreat took place at the Dhyan Mandapam, the very site where Swami Vivekananda is believed to have experienced a divine vision about “Bharat Mata.”

After the meditation, PM Modi paid floral tributes to the Tamil saint-poet Thiruvalluvar and penned a reflective note on his visit. According to a report by the Times of India, he wrote, “Swami Vivekananda, a pioneer of the spiritual renaissance, has been my inspiration, my source of energy, and the foundation of my practice. After travelling across the entire country, Swami Vivekananda meditated at this very place, where he gained a new direction for India’s revival. It is my good fortune that today, after so many years, as Swami Vivekananda’s values and ideals are shaping the India of his dreams, I have also been given the opportunity to practice at this sacred place.”

Letter penned by PM Narendra Modi

The Vivekananda Rock Memorial holds significant historical and spiritual value. It is located at the southernmost tip of India, where the eastern and western coastlines converge, meeting the Indian Ocean, Bay of Bengal, and Arabian Sea. According to mythology, Goddess Parvati also meditated at this site on one foot while waiting for Lord Shiva. PM Modi’s visit is seen as a message of national unity and spiritual rejuvenation.

Following his meditative retreat, PM Modi addressed his final Lok Sabha election rally in Hoshiarpur, Punjab. During his speech, he compared the achievements of his government to the ideology of Guru Ravidas and criticized the opposition, particularly the Congress party, for past actions such as the Emergency and the 1984 anti-Sikh riots.

Over the past 75 days, the Prime Minister has been actively involved in the election campaign, participating in around 206 events, including rallies and roadshows, and conducting approximately 80 interviews with various media outlets.

This is not the first time PM Modi has undertaken such a spiritual journey during a crucial political period. Before the counting for the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, he offered prayers at the Kedarnath shrine in Uttarakhand. He meditated in the Rudra cave, located 11,700 feet up in the Himalayas, spending the night in the serene and now-famous meditation spot.

PM Modi’s recent visit to Kanniyakumari and his reflective engagement with Swami Vivekananda’s legacy underscore his deep connection to India’s spiritual heritage and his commitment to the values that have shaped the nation’s journey.
