On Thursday, May 30, the security forces once again tasted major success in Chhattisgarh after they apprehended a total of 16 lower-rung cadres of the banned Maoist outfit CPI Maoist from insurgency-hit Bijapur district. Those apprehended by the police were all involved in carrying out illegal activities at the behest of the proscribed security forces.

The arrested Maoists were held in separate places under different police station limits of the Maoist stronghold of Bijapur. According to the preliminary information received, a total of 11 Maoists were apprehended from the Gorna Podiyarpara area under the Bijapur police station limits, while the other 5 were nabbed from the Bhusapar area under the Usur police station limits.

The arrested Maoist cadres were involved in planting Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs), cutting and digging roads to hinder the movements of security forces in the interior regions.

A few of the Maoists nabbed by the police were associated with the banned outfit for around 25–30 years, they all have been nabbed under separate counter-insurgency operations launched in the district, he added.

Notably, security forces have intensified search operations in the Maoist affected areas of Bijapur, Sukma, and the Abujhmaad area of Narayanpur, leading to the neutralisation and arrest of scores of Maoists in the past few months.

Earlier, in a similar development reported from neighbouring Dantewada district, a joint team of security forces had also nabbed as many as 15 Maoists from Girsapara area on May 28.

The arrested cadres were all lower-rung cadres who were associated with the separate frontal organisations of the outlawed Maoist outfit.

As per the latest statistics shared by the Deputy Chief Minister of the state, Vijay Sharma, over 400 Maoists have been arrested during separate operations launched in the insurgency-hit state in the last five months alone.

Additionally, the forces have also managed to neutralise around 120 armed Maoist cadres during separate encounters that occurred between the security personnel and the outlaws during the same period.

The mass arrests and the killings of the extremists in recent months has also led to surrender of over 400 active members of the banned outfit who have parted ways the dreaded outfit citing variety of reasons including exploitation and discrimination by senior Maoists.
