The security team has also recovered explosive materials and Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) on the identification of the arrested accused.

It is noteworthy that the search operation launched on Monday follows security forces major offensive against the outlaws, which resulted in the neutralisation of as many as 12 Maoist on May 10 in the forest area of Pedia itself.

Two Maoist surrender in Dantewada

In other news linked to the Maoist, as many as two lower rung cadres of the outlawed group have also surrender before the police in the Maoist-affected Dantewada district of Chhattisgarh on Monday.

According to the reports, Maoist operatives Motiram Kunjam and Rajesh Oyaam, both residents of Bechapaal have turned themselves before the police and surrendered under the flagship “Lone Varatu Campaign” (an appeal of homecoming in local Gondi dialect) being jointly undertaken by the police and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF).

The surrendered cadres were involved in carrying out various illegal activities on behest of the Maoist outfit. Both Rajesh and Motiram have been provided with immediate financial assistance of Rs 25,000 each as part of the State government surrender and rehabilitation policy, according to an official of the police familiar with the development.

It is worth mentioning here that scores of former cadres of the violent group have opted to join the mainstream by shunning the path of violence due to increasing pressure of the security forces in the hinterlands of Bastar division of the State lately.

Most of these surrenders have taken place under the ‘Lone Varatu Campaign’ under which a total of 801 Maoist have so far laid down arms before the authorities. This includes a total of 180 Maoist cadres who were carrying a reward at the time of surrender.
