Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, on May 2, likened the Congress “proposal” to impose an inheritance tax to the jizya levied on the Hindus during Aurangzeb’s rule and also accused the party of encouraging cow slaughter.
Furthermore, Yogi Adityanath accused the Congress of encouraging cow slaughter, a sensitive issue that holds deep cultural and religious significance in India. He emphasised that such actions deliberately provoke sentiments and create unrest among the majority population. The Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister also condemned the alleged alliance between the Congress and the Samajwadi Party (SP), accusing them of attempting to undermine the reservation system in India. Yogi Adityanath asserted that this alliance aims to prioritise reservations for Muslims over other marginalised communities, thereby fueling tensions and disrupting social harmony.
The roadshow in Mainpuri saw Yogi Adityanath reinforce his stance against the alleged Congress-SP alliance, portraying it as a threat to Uttar Pradesh’s progress and stability.
In addition to criticising the political opponents, Yogi Adityanath also paid tribute to former Chief Minister Kalyan Singh, highlighting his contributions to the State and lamenting the lack of acknowledgement from rival parties.
Overall, Yogi Adityanath’s fiery rhetoric at the election rallies reflects the heightened political tensions in Uttar Pradesh as parties vie for supremacy in the upcoming elections. His accusations against the Congress and SP alliance resonate with the BJP’s narrative of protecting Hindu interests and promoting development in the State. Polling in Mainpuri, Etah and Firozabad is scheduled for May 7.
