An armed cadre of the banned Communist Party of India Maoist (CPI Maoist) has been killed following an encounter with the security forces in Maoist-hit Sukma district of Chhattisgarh on Monday, April 30, according to the sources.
The development occurred when separate teams of Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and District Reserve Guards (DRG) were out on a routine area domination exercise under the Kistaram police station limits of Sukma district, where a gunfight broke out between the DRG personnel and the Maoists in the Satlong area.
After the gunfight, the personnel of DRG recovered the body of a male Maoist. The personnel have also recovered a weapon from the possession of the deceased Maoist whose identity is yet to be ascertained.
Confirming about the development, Superintendent of Police (SP), Sukma Kiran Chauvhan, said that an encounter has taken place between the DRG and the Naxals, following the exchange of fire body of a Maoist, which has been recovered from the spot while search operations are being conducted in the vicinity.
It is noteworthy that the security forces in recent months have amplified counter-insurgency operations in the Maoist affected regions of the State. According to the figures shared by the police as many as 81 Maoist have been killed during separate search operation launched by the forces in the last four months alone.
This includes the killing of as many as 29 Maoists who were killed following an intense exchange of fire with the security forces near Binnagunda- Hapatola forest area under Chotebethiya police station limits of Kanker district on April 16 this year.
Four held in Bijapur
In another development, security forces in a separate operation launched in Bijapur district on Sunday, April 28 apprehended as many as three people reportedly associated with the outlawed Maoist outfit.
According to the details received, the trio were arrested in the forest area of Fullaur Jaigur of Bijapur. Those who have been nabbed are identified as Boti Podiyam, Ramnath Kashyap, and Sonuk Padam.
The trio were arrested a day after a hardcore Maoist identified as Marpalli Devendra was also arrested by the forces from the Sirakonta area. Devendra is considered an expert in planting explosives.
The forces have also recovered explosive materials from the possession of the accused, the recovery includes detonators, guillotine sticks, codex wire, and walkie talkie.
