In a controversial move that has sparked outrage and raised eyebrows, Congress State Minister Seethakka in Telangana paid a visit to the house of Naxal/Maoist leader Siripelli Sudhakar, also known as Sankaranna, who was killed in an encounter with security forces in Kanker. The visit took place amidst heightened tensions in the region following the encounter.

During her visit, Seethakka not only visited the house of the deceased Naxal leader but also paid tribute to his portrait, further igniting controversy. Sudhakar, a prominent figure in the Naxal movement, was reportedly involved in several violent incidents and was wanted by security forces for his alleged involvement in various criminal activities.

The Congress leader’s actions have drawn criticism from various quarters, with many questioning the propriety of paying homage to a Naxal leader responsible for inciting violence and destabilising the region. Critics argue that such gestures only serve to glorify and legitimise the actions of extremists, undermining the efforts of security forces to maintain law and order in the area.

The visit has also reignited debates about the Congress party’s stance on extremism and terrorism.

It was last week that the security forces had a major success as they eliminated 29 dreaded ultra-left wing terrorists in Kanker. The success of the operation was lauded by Union Home Minister Amit Shah. The Union Government is taking all possible steps to root out this menace of red-terrorism, which has been flourishing in Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Andhra Pradesh, and Telangana.

The visit of the Congress leader to pay homage to the killed Maoist clearly shows how Naxalism flourished under the regime of the Congress Party.
