Nirmala Sitharaman, Finance Minister of India, has articulated the possible effects of the Iran-Israel conflict on India’s economy. At present, India leads at number three for oil imports, getting about 85 per cent of its oil from imports.
Nirmala Sitharaman said that India has been proactive in looking out for its sources of oil imports to mitigate risks associated with price fluctuations. She specifically mentioned that India has started importing oil from Russia. This is to protect India from possible increases in prices due to sanctions by Western countries.
