Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma made bold statements during a roadshow in Vandoor, Malappuram district, declaring that political change is imminent in Kerala and predicting victory for the BJP-led NDA in the state by 2026. Sarma, while campaigning for K. Surendran, BJP state president and candidate against Rahul Gandhi in the Wayanad constituency, labelled Rahul Gandhi as a “tourist” in Wayanad and emphasized Surendran’s status as a “son of the soil.”
Drawing parallels with Assam’s political landscape, Sarma highlighted the unexpected rise of the NDA to power in Assam, despite the state’s significant Muslim population. He asserted that the BJP’s victory in Assam, not once but twice, with over 100 seats, showcases the party’s inclusive approach and commitment to development.
Sarma criticised Rahul Gandhi’s candidature in Wayanad, suggesting that his presence in the constituency is merely an opportunistic quest for a safe seat in the Lok Sabha. He urged voters to choose Surendran, emphasising his capability as a responsible Member of Parliament.
Further, Sarma dismissed the electoral contest between the Congress and CPM in Kerala as mere theatrics, alleging collusion between the two parties in other states. He argued that the BJP stands for the overall progress and welfare of all citizens, in contrast to the political drama enacted by traditional parties.
Highlighting economic disparities between Assam and Kerala, Sarma pointed out the higher petrol prices and lower Dearness Allowance in Kerala compared to Assam. He also lauded the Modi administration’s efforts, asserting that India, under Modi’s leadership, has emerged as the world’s fifth-largest economy.

These discussions, which took place in Delhi, were put on hold and are expected to resume after the Lok Sabha polls. Sarma mentioned that Rahul Gandhi instructed Congress workers not to display party flags during his election campaign in Wayanad, purportedly out of fear that it would prompt the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) to raise its flag. Sarma criticised this move, contrasting it with the BJP’s unwavering pride.
Sarma also ridiculed Rahul Gandhi’s question about why the Kerala Chief Minister had not been arrested despite facing several allegations. He likened it to Rahul’s past query about Arvind Kejriwal’s arrest, suggesting that Rahul would likely sympathise with Pinarayi Vijayan if the latter were arrested. Sarma emphasised the importance of a Uniform Civil Code (UCC) for India, expressing confidence in Prime Minister Modi’s ability to implement it.
Regarding the recent violence in Manipur, Sarma clarified that it was a dispute between two tribes and not a religious conflict between Hindus and Christians. He condemned attempts to spread false information about the situation in Manipur.
