Agartala: The Border Security Force (BSF) Tripura Frontier has embarked on a mission to integrate technological advancements in border crime management by implementing a smart border surveillance system. According to IG BSF Tripura Frontier, Patel Pijush Purusottam Das, a total of 503 surveillance cameras have been strategically deployed across the bordering areas to curb trans-border smuggling and other criminal activities. This significant initiative was unveiled during a press conference held in Agartala.
During the briefing at the BSF Tripura Frontier Headquarters, the senior BSF official emphasized the active efforts of the border guarding forces in bolstering vigilance along the border fronts. Measures include the installation of surveillance cameras to address small natural gaps in the borders and the ongoing implementation of single-row fencing in eight patches along the 856-kilometre-long border in Tripura. Notably, six fencing gaps have already been successfully sealed off.
Highlighting the challenges faced by BSF troopers, the official underscored the influx of infiltrators as a major concern. A staggering total of 1018 infiltrators have been apprehended for attempting to cross the borders illegally. Among them, 592 individuals were intercepted while trying to enter Indian territory, with the remainder attempting to exit. Notably, a significant portion of these infiltrators consists of Rohingya Illegal Migrants.
In addition, the official disclosed details of recent raids conducted by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) in Tripura. A total of 29 individuals from Tripura were arrested by the NIA for their roles as primary facilitators of illegal immigration. These individuals provided various forms of technical and logistic support to facilitate illegal migration. The arrests have proven instrumental in enabling the BSF to identify the routes utilised for illegal migration, prompting the closure of these areas.
The adoption of the smart border surveillance system by the BSF Tripura Frontier marks a pivotal step towards bolstering border security and combating cross-border crimes. With technological innovations and strategic measures in place, the BSF remains committed to safeguarding the nation’s borders and ensuring the integrity of Indian territory.
