BJP Chief in Tamil Nadu, K Annamalai, has made startling allegations against the ruling DMK government, accusing them of indulging in tapping his phone and that of his family members.
Addressing the media in Coimbatore, Annamalai made serious allegations against the DMK, stating, “Just see how many Intelligence officers will go to jail after the 2024 elections. I am under extensive surveillance. They are eavesdropping on me, my sister, wife, friends, family members.”
Drawing parallels with a previous case in Hyderabad where police officers were jailed for similar actions, Annamalai accused the Tamil Nadu police of setting up a surveillance unit in Coimbatore to monitor his activities and those around him. He alleged that the tapped conversations were being shared with senior DMK leaders, including TRB Raja and former minister V Senthil Balaji, who is currently in jail.
Expressing confidence that those responsible for the phone tapping would face consequences after the election results, Annamalai criticised the DMK regime for what he termed as “draconian” practices. He raised concerns about intimidation tactics against industrialists and educational institutions, alleging interference based on intelligence inputs.
Critics have slammed the DMK, pointing out the hypocrisy in their actions. While the party had previously voiced concerns about privacy violations and allegations of phone tapping by other parties, they now stand accused of practicing the same. Annamalai’s background as a former police officer has enabled him to detect the surveillance, but others may take longer to realize they are being monitored by the Stalin government.
The allegations have sparked controversy and raised questions about the extent of government surveillance and the violation of privacy rights. Many view this as an attempt by the DMK to curb the growth of the BJP and undermine Annamalai’s electoral prospects.
