Selfless love and affection of people know no boundaries for those whom they adore. Such people go to any extent to express their admiration. One such incident came to light in Tamil Nadu, ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s roadshow. An old woman was seen on the roadside worshipping the image of PM Modi and praying for his victory in the Lok Sabha Elections 2024.

Similar incidents were witnessed in the past in Tamil Nadu, as one got to see a temple dedicated to MGR and actress Khushboo. The fans go to extremes to express their love, and some of them, including government servants and policemen, have even offered their fingers to Jayalalithaa. Even though, they lost their job, their love and affection for their leader were selfless. However, the gesture of the old woman to worship before the image of PM Modi had outclassed all the other previous acts of the fans.

The old and poor had come from Medavakkam to attend PM Modi’s road show in Pondy Bazaar on the evening of April 9, before sunset. The woman found a secure space to place the picture of PM Modi on the roadside. In a touching gesture, she replicated what we all do before venturing inside the temple, which is to remove our footwear.

The old woman took off her footwear, and she left everyone stunned as she prostrated with folded legs before the picture of PM Narendra Modi and also offered flowers to the image. According to a video and a volunteer retired headmistress, Sumathi, she was heard saying that Prime Minister Modi should remain healthy and be deprived of all worries and problems. She further opined that he should achieve success in all his endeavours, and Bhagwan Ram should bless him since he had successfully built the Ram Mandir in Ayodhya, which was a big accomplishment. During the course of the prayers that she offered, she prayed for the victory of PM Modi and stated that Bhagwan Ram will ensure that PM Modi wins the elections for the third time and takes oath as the PM of Bharat.

The old woman is absolutely of sound mind, and her commitment to PM Modi definitely left the people awestruck.

In Tamil Nadu, people at large have pledged to vote for the BJP and Modi, and one of the main reasons for this is that he was able to get the Ram Mandir constructed, despite the hurdles. The installation of Ram Lalla’s murti and Pran Pratishtha on January 22 has moved the people of Tamil Nadu. What needs to be seen is whether the selfless devotion of the old woman will draw the attention of PM Modi towards her.

In neighbouring Karnataka, in a peculiar incident, Arun Vernekar, a fervent supporter of Prime Minister Narendra Modi residing in Sonarwada, Karwar, Uttara Kannada district in Karnataka, accidentally severed his finger while attempting to draw blood as an offering to Maa Kali while praying for Modi’s win for the third consecutive time. Such extreme love for their leaders or heroes can find parallels in legendary mythology, where, a hunter named Kannappan offered both eyes to Bhagwan Shiva. In Ramayan, Sabri tasted the fruits before offering them to Bhagwan Ram. Ma Sita went into a burning fire pit to prove chastity.

A London based dermatologist couple came all the way to Coimbatore after they resigned from their job to work for Annamalai. It showed their love. A cobbler during En Maan En Makkal yatra, offered Annamalai handmade, finely crafted footwear. These are spontaneous gestures of love and affection.

PM Modi, after his hour long road show , posted a message on his X social platform: “ Chennai has won me over! Today’s road show in this dynamic city will remain a part of my memory forever. The blessings of the people give me strength to keep working hard in your service and to make our nation even more developed. The enthusiasm in Chennai also shows that Tamil Nadu is all set to support NDA in a big way”.

He also said, “ I assure my sisters and brothers of Chennai that our Government will keep working for the welfare of this vibrant city. Over the last few years, I have come here very often to inaugurate and lay the foundation stone for key projects which will boost ‘Ease of Living.’ At the root of this is connectivity. Recently, the new integrated terminal building at Chennai airport was inaugurated. In the coming years, railway stations here, including Egmore Station, are going to be redeveloped.. Key road projects such as Chennai-Bangalore Expressway and the expansion of other existing road projects will improve commerce and connectivity. Our government is also working on projects like a multi modal logistics park and a discovery campus at IIT Madras, which will boost business as well as innovation.. Thanks to Vande Bharat express, connectivity between Chennai-Coimbatore and Chennai-Mysuru has also been enhanced. The Chennai Metro network is being expanded, thus helping the professionals working in the city. Key road projects like the Chennai-Bengaluru Expressway and the expansion of other existing road projects will improve commerce and connectivity.”.

In another tweet, PM Modi said, “Our Government accords topmost respect to Tamil culture. I felt so proud that I got an opportunity to speak a few words in Tamil at the UN! We will continue to make Tamil culture and language popular at the world stage. Two years ago, the Central Institute of Classical Tamil was inaugurated, which will further popularise aspects of Tamil culture. Earlier this year, the revamped channel DD Tamil was launched, which will again be instrumental in celebrating the culture of this great state”.
