Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) Chief Mohan Bhagwat went on a spiritually significant journey to the revered shrines of Lord Omkareshwar and Mamleshwar Jyotirlinga situated in the sacred Omkareshwar town in Madhya Pradesh’s Khandwa district just before the commencement of Phase 1 of the Lok Sabha elections. Because of its high-profile nature, the pilgrimage was prompted by the implementation of strict security measures to ensure the safety of everyone involved.
Bhagwat’s pilgrimage started with a visit to the revered shrines of Omkareshwar and Mamleshwar Jyotirlinga, where he spent about 10 minutes and offered prayers amidst heightened security. He also performed worship ceremonies by the Narmada River at Omkareshwar. On behalf of the Shreeji Mandir Trust, the Chief was welcomed with a picture of Lord Omkareshwar by Pandit Ashish Dixit who represented the trust of the temple.
Typically, Bhagwat’s visit to Omkareshwar began on April 4, evening for a two-day personal trip to Khandwa. Upon arrival at Ekatm Dham on Omkar Parvat, he inspected the 108 feet tall statue of Adiguru Shankaracharya (posted by Adarsh Hegde on X)

He voiced his displeasure with the statue’s construction delays since its debut and stated that he hoped to have the project finished by Simhastha 2028. In addition, he offered tribute to an Adi Guru Shankaracharya statue that stood eleven feet tall.
Bhagwat decided to spend the night at Sri Sri Ravi Shankar’s ashram at Bilora Khurd. Swami Bhumanand Saraswati, Acharya Mahamandaleshwar Vivekananda Puri Maharaj, and several other Sangh officials cordially received him upon his arrival in Omkareshwar.
As a precautionary measure and welfare of everyone, the entry of regular devotees into the temple was temporarily halted when the Chief visited the shrines. Post this, Bhagwat later went to Niranjani Akhara, where he took part in a Havan ceremony. Furthermore, officials from various organizations came together with volunteers to discuss the cleanliness and purity of the Narmada River at Sri Sri Ravi Shankar’s Ashram.
