Guwahati: In a groundbreaking operation, the Special Task Force (STF) in Assam has achieved huge success by seizing a staggering 21 kilogrammes of heroin in the Cachar district of Southern Assam. The estimated market value of the seized contraband stands at a whopping Rs 210 crore.

The operation, which took place near Sahidpur under the jurisdiction of Silchar Police Station, saw a joint effort between the Cachar police and the STF. Acting on intelligence inputs, a Breeza vehicle originating from Aizawl was intercepted by the vigilant team.

Upon thorough inspection, the STF and police personnel discovered the illicit drugs cleverly concealed in the vehicle’s trunk, hidden beneath layers of bread and biscuits. The meticulous operation led to the apprehension of one individual, identified as Laldinuwa from Mizoram.

This remarkable feat was led by IGP Parthasarathi Mahanta, with crucial assistance from SP Numol Mahatao of Cachar. Three individuals have been arrested in connection with the seizure, signalling a significant blow to the narcotics trade in the region.

Expressing his satisfaction with the operation, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma took to microblogging site X to laud the efforts of the security agencies. He stated, “In a big step towards a #DrugsFreeAssam, 21 kg of heroin has been seized in Silchar in a joint operation by @STFAssam & @cacharpolice. One person has been arrested, and an investigation is underway to crack the supply grid. Well done, @assampolice!”

The successful crackdown on this massive drug haul marks a pivotal moment in the ongoing battle against narcotics trafficking in Assam. The authorities remain committed to further investigating the supply chain and dismantling the drug networks plaguing the state.
