The move to give ticket to Rekha Patra was lauded by Amit Malviya, who is In-charge of BJP’s National Information & Technology Dept. Co-incharge West Bengal. Taking to X, he said, “The BJP has fielded Rekha Patra from Basirhat in Bengal. She is one of the victims of #Sandeshkhali, who suffered at the hands of Sheikh Shahjahan. Let Mamata Banerjee wipe the tears of women like her, who are suffering in silence, and are subject to her apathy, before she asks for their vote.

The decision to field Rekha Patra as a candidate underscores the BJP’s commitment to empowering grassroots leaders and providing a platform for voices that have long been marginalised. Patra’s journey from being a victim of violence to a political contender reflects her courage and determination to bring about positive change in her community.

Kudos to BJP for giving ticket to Rekha Patra from Basirhat. She is one of the survivors of #Sandeshkhali. Big move and a lesson to Mamata provided she is willing to learn, otherwise she will be relegated to oblivion soon.

The Sandeshkhali violence,  left a lasting impact on the community, destroying the lives of a large number of women by Sheikh Shahjahan, who exploited the women sexually and physically. Finally, the women of Sandeshkhali took to the streets and called for a stringent action against Sheikh Shahjhana and his accomplices. It was after much pressure that Sheikh Shahjhana, who was absconding, was finally arrested and was later handed over to the Central Bureau of Investigation.
