The tragic double murder of two Hindu brothers, aged 14 and 6, in Badaun, Uttar Pradesh, on the late evening of March 19, has reverberated shockwaves throughout the nation. One of the accused, Sajid, was killed in a police encounter the previous night, while his brother and co-accused, Javed, remains at large. Both the father and uncle of the accused siblings are currently in police custody. The motive behind this gruesome act is yet to be determined, although witnesses and the victims’ family members have alleged that the accused indulged in drinking blood after committing the heinous crime. Despite speculation linking the murders to black magic, the police have denied this angle.
Fake ‘Upari Hawa’ Claim
Amidst conjectures regarding the motive, the grandmother of the accused brothers, Kuttan, has asserted that Sajid was under the influence of “upari hawa” (seemingly referring to black magic). She claimed that Javed, the remaining accused, is innocent, stating, “jo kia hoga wo Sajid ne kia hoga” (Translation – Whatever happened, Sajid must have done it). Kuttan further insisted, “Javed is innocent. Sajid was influenced by ‘uppari hawa.’ Javed was at home at that time. He came to know about the incident after the Maghrib azaan and ran away out of fear.”

In addition to the grandmother’s claims, some locals have also alleged that Sajid and Javed resorted to black magic.
However, the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) has refuted the notion of black magic being involved in the double murder.
According to reports suggesting a black magic angle, before perpetrating the brutal murder, Sajid reportedly informed the victims’ mother that his wife was pregnant and expected to deliver that day. He lamented that despite having five children, none of them had survived. With witnesses and victims’ family members revealing that the accused drank blood after the brutal murder, reports have hinted at possible involvement of occult practices in this double homicide.
Meanwhile, the father of the accused brothers expressed profound regret over the incident, emphasising that what occurred was reprehensible. He conveyed that they mourn the loss of the two young children more than the death of their own son. The father disclosed that Javed was at home until 7 pm on the fateful day and left after receiving a call.
Uncle Kamuruddin reflected on Sajid’s temperament, describing him as hot-tempered and unyielding, noting that he was often isolated within the household.
Sajid and Javed’s mother, Nazreen, expressed sorrow over the death of both children. Regarding Sajid’s encounter with the police, she remarked that he faced the consequences for his wrongdoing.
Fake Claim of Sajid’s Wife Being Pregnant
Notably, contrary to earlier claims, it has been disclosed that Sajid’s wife is not pregnant. Previous reports indicated that Sajid had approached Sangeeta, the mother of the deceased victims, requesting Rs 5000, purportedly for his pregnant wife’s hospital expenses. However, during an interview with TV9 Bharatvarsh, Sajid’s wife, Sana, vehemently denied any pregnancy.
When informed about her husband’s alleged pregnancy-related plea, Sana promptly refuted it, stating, “No, I have no idea why he said so.” Questioned about her recent communication with Sajid, Sana hesitantly mentioned that it was approximately 8 days ago, as she does not possess a mobile phone. Sana elaborated that Sajid would occasionally drop her off at her maternal home and retrieve her after 15-20 days. She expressed her shock at learning about the murders, stating that she only became aware in the morning that Sajid had killed two children and subsequently met his demise in a police encounter.
Furthermore, Sajid’s wife dismissed any notion of occult involvement, asserting that despite the premature deaths of their two children, Sajid had never coerced her into practising occult rituals or sought guidance from religious authorities such as a Maulvi.
Details in the FIR
In the First Information Report (FIR) lodged by the father of the deceased, Vinod Kumar, it was stated that the accused Sajid and his brother Javed arrived at their residence around 7 p.m. on Tuesday.
“Sajid informed my wife Sangeeta that he required a loan of Rs 5,000 for his wife’s delivery,” the FIR filed at Civil Lines Police Station recounts. “While my wife went inside to fetch the money, Sajid ascended to the rooftop. Shortly after, Javed also joined him on the roof, and they called my two sons, Ayush, 12, and Ahaan, also known as Honey, 8, to join them.”
As Sangita went indoors to provide the money, Sajid instructed Vinod Kumar’s teenage son, Piyush Pratap, to go outside and fetch gutka.
Later, Sajid informed Sangita that he was feeling unwell and wished to go to the terrace for some fresh air. Calling Javed inside, Sajid took Vinod Kumar’s sons with him to the rooftop. Vinod Kumar informed the authorities that subsequent to this, when Sangita returned with the money, she witnessed Sajid and Javed descending the stairs, with Sajid clutching a blood-stained knife.
On Tuesday, March 19, 2024, in the Badaun district of Uttar Pradesh, two minor Hindu children were ruthlessly murdered by Sajid, who slit their throats. A third child also sustained severe neck injuries and was promptly rushed to a nearby hospital for medical attention. Sajid, who was later killed in a police encounter, was accompanied by his brother, Javed.
According to media reports, during the encounter on March 19th, the police recovered one country-made 315 bore pistol, 4 spent cartridges of 315 bore, and 4 live cartridges of 315 bore. Additionally, another suspect has been apprehended under Section 307 IPC (Indian Penal Code) and the 3/25/27 Arms Act.
