Holi 2024 Date & Time:

Holi 2024 date is March 25, 2024, which falls on the full moon day (Purnima) in the Hindu lunar month of Phalgun. The festivities typically begin in the evening of the full moon day when holika dehan is celebrated and continue until the next day when people play Holi.

The celebration of Holi is marked by various rituals and traditions, adding to its vibrancy and charm.

1. Holika Dahan: As mentioned above, the evening of Holi is celebrated as Holika Dahan or Choti Holi. In this, bonfires are lit and it is believed that it symbolises the burning of evil spirits. People gather around the bonfire, they sing and dance while offering prayers for prosperity and protection.

2. Playing with Colours: The main day of Holi 2024 is filled with excitement as people coat each other with vibrant colours and colourful water. Also called Rangwali Holi, this represents the joy of life, love, and togetherness, where people meet and enjoy those moments. Children and adults all come together and play with water guns or pichkaris, water balloons, and organic colours and drench their friends and family in hues of happiness.

3. Sweets and Delicacies: Once the playing part is over, in the evening, people dress up and meet their dear ones, enjoying delicious sweets and savouries. Traditional delicacies such as gujiya, thandai, puran poli, malpua etc., are a delightful flavour to the festivities.

History of Holi Festival:

The roots and history of Holi festival can be traced back to ancient Hindu mythology. With Holi, several legends are associated with its origin. One of the most popular legends behind Holi is the tale of Prahlad and Holika. Where Prahlad was a devotee of Bhagwan Vishnu and was saved from the hands of his aunt Holika. However, Prahlad’s devotion protected him from the mishapennings.

Another significant history of Holi festival is associated with the divine love between Bhagwan Krishna and Radha. Krishna who is worldwide known for his playful antics used to celebrate Holi with colours and water, delighting in splashing Radha and the gopis with love.

The significance of Holi can be found not only in cultural but spiritual boundaries as well. It transcends the barriers of religion and geography. Holi marks the arrival of spring, bidding farewell to the cold winter months. The festival invites blossoming flowers and vibrant colours to paint nature.

Holi 2024 ignites a sense of unity and social harmony as people come together to enjoy and celebrate, regardless of their caste, creed, or status. It builds reconciliation and the strengthening of bonds.

Modern interpretations of Holi:

Along with its deep roots in ancient mythology and traditions, Holi has also evolved to embrace modern interpretations and expressions of joy. People are becoming more environmentally friendly, and because of this, there is a rising trend towards celebrating eco-friendly Holi. Instead of traditional chemical-based colours, people are using organic colours made from natural ingredients like turmeric, beetroot, and flowers. In tier-I cities, Holi has become a lively social event. Beyond India’s borders, Holi has gained recognition and popularity worldwide. People of different cultures partake in the Holi festivities.

In conclusion, Holi 2024 is not just a festival of colours but a celebration of life, love, and togetherness. As the world gears up to immerse itself in the kaleidoscope of hues, let us cherish the spirit of Holi 2024 by spreading happiness and positivity wherever we go.
