The complaint alleges that Anbarasan openly threatened to harm Prime Minister Modi, stating, “If I was not holding ministerial office, I would resort to violence against PM Modi.” According to the FIR, his comments pose a significant risk to the safety and security of the Prime Minister and are intended to disrupt peace and stability in the nation, potentially inciting violence.

The incident in question occurred during a public rally or procession led by Anbarasan, a prominent political figure with a significant following. In a video circulating online, the minister is seen criticising PM Modi’s leadership style and making remarks indicating a willingness to resort to violence against him.
“We have seen many prime ministers, we haven’t seen a PM who spoke like this,” Anbarasan is quoted as saying in the video. “He said he will eradicate the DMK, will you eradicate it? Let me tell you one thing, DMK is not an ordinary party, it was built over the life sacrifices of many and was built by shedding blood. Those who said DMK would be eradicated have perished. DMK will stand strong. Remember that. You go elsewhere and see, I’m being soft because I am a minister; else I will tear you apart into pieces.”
In a statement released on his official social media handle, Annamalai expressed concern over the rising anti-incumbency in Tamil Nadu and condemned the purported threats issued by the DMK minister against Prime Minister Modi. Annamalai warned that such divisive politics and inflammatory rhetoric would lead to the eventual downfall of the DMK party from the political landscape.

The controversy erupted after several BJP functionaries highlighted the problematic speech made by the DMK minister. Social media platforms were abuzz with discussions and criticisms regarding the alleged threats directed towards the Prime Minister.
One of the BJP’s social media functionaries, Karthik Gopinath, even posted a video explaining the content of the DMK minister’s speech in Hindi, further amplifying the issue.

This is not the first time the DMK minister, T M Anbarasan, has found himself embroiled in controversy over inflammatory remarks. In June 2022, Anbarasan allegedly made a death threat to Tamil Nadu BJP Chief Annamalai. The incident had sparked widespread outrage, with BJP officials condemning the minister’s remarks and demanding appropriate action.
According to BJP’s Tamil Nadu Vice President Narayan Thirupathy, Anbarasan had reportedly threatened Annamalai, stating, “If you utter any more words against our government, we will eliminate you.”
The recent controversy surrounding the DMK minister’s alleged threats against Prime Minister Modi has reignited tensions between the ruling DMK and the opposition BJP in Tamil Nadu. The BJP has called for immediate legal action against the minister and any individuals or entities involved in sharing or endorsing the purportedly offensive content.
