In a shocking revelation, renowned YouTuber Faisal Abdul Mutallib Khan, operating under the pseudonym Baba Vlogs, has found himself at the centre of a controversy involving the recruitment of Indian nationals into the Russia-Ukraine conflict. Reports emerging recently have implicated Khan in the tragic deaths of two individuals who were allegedly misled into participating in the conflict under false pretences.
Khan, known for his YouTube channel Baba Vlogs and his involvement in a manpower consultancy firm, is accused of enticing several Indians with promises of lucrative employment opportunities within the Russian army. Despite assurances of non-combat roles and government benefits, many individuals reportedly found themselves thrust into the midst of the war, with devastating consequences.
Hailing from Mumbai’s Dadar area, Khan initially established himself as a fishmonger before transitioning into the manpower consultancy business in 2016. His YouTube channel gained widespread popularity, boasting over three lakh followers, as he advertised job opportunities abroad, particularly in Gulf Cooperation Council countries.
However, Khan’s reputation faced scrutiny in 2018 amid allegations of forced conversions to Islam among individuals he sent to Dubai. Despite these controversies, he continued his consultancy operations and expanded services to include job placements in various countries, including Russia.
Media reports indicate that Khan, through his YouTube channel and consultancy firm, misled individuals into believing they would secure well-paying employment in Russia. Allegedly, recruits were assured of non-combat roles within the Russian army, with promised salaries ranging from ₹40,000 to ₹1 lakh following three months of training.
However, upon arrival in Russia, many individuals were allegedly coerced into frontline combat, resulting in casualties. Khan, in response to these allegations, claimed that the recruits were aware of the risks involved and asserted that events beyond his control unfolded once they reached Russia.
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) recently took action, dismantling a human trafficking ring accused of deceiving Indians with false promises of job opportunities in Russia, only to allegedly coerce them into participating in the conflict. This crackdown followed the tragic deaths of two Indians engaged in warfare in Russia against Ukraine.
In a coordinated operation, the CBI conducted raids across multiple locations, uncovering a complex network involved in trafficking gullible Indian nationals. Several individuals and entities, including Khan’s consultancy firm, were implicated in the FIR filed by the CBI, which includes charges related to cheating, criminal conspiracy, and human trafficking.
The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal addressed the matter, affirming the government’s commitment to the safe return of Indian nationals ensnared in this scheme. Meanwhile, a plea circulating on social media, urging governmental intervention for the repatriation of affected individuals from Russia, has garnered widespread attention.
As investigations continue, authorities suspect that many more Indians may be trapped in similar circumstances in Russia. The case underscores the importance of vigilance and stringent action against entities involved in the trafficking and exploitation of vulnerable individuals for personal gain.
