Tamil Nadu BJP President Annamalai expressed deep concern over the rising drug menace in the state, accusing the DMK government of transforming the cultural capital into a drug capital. Annamalai, who recently completed his ‘En Maan En Makkal’ rally in Palladam in the presence of PM Modi and alliance leaders, presented startling allegations against the DMK, shedding light on their alleged links with an international drug peddler, Jaffar Sadiq.
Annamalai revealed, “DMK functionary and international drug peddler Jaffar Sadiq, along with his brothers, is currently on the run to evade arrest for smuggling over Rs 2000 crore worth of synthetic drugs.” The BJP leader, sporting a new look with a clean-shaven appearance and a police haircut, conveyed his message through a video that quickly circulated on social media platforms.
Highlighting a recent incident off the coast of Gujarat, Annamalai stated, “Yesterday, the NCB apprehended drugs worth Rs 1200 crore, intended to be picked up by a vessel from Tamil Nadu.” He criticised Chief Minister MK Stalin for what he deemed a lack of action over the past three years, despite promises to confiscate the properties of drug peddlers. According to Annamalai, the wealth of drug peddlers has only multiplied under Stalin’s watch.
The BJP Chief also accused DMK goons of attacking reporters from Polimer News for covering the NCB raid at Sahara Couriers, owned by DMK functionary Sitrarasu – a close associate of the Gopalapuram Scion. Sahara Couriers is believed to be a central point for drug distribution associated with Jaffar Sadiq.

In a video message conveyed in Tamil with English subtitles, Tamil Nadu BJP Chief Annamalai made a heartfelt appeal to the people of Tamil Nadu, urging them to unite in the fight against the escalating drug crisis in the state. Annamalai expressed grave concerns over the increasing availability of drugs, particularly ganja and synthetic substances, since the DMK came to power, stating that the issue has reached even the remotest rural areas.
Addressing the viewers, Annamalai emphasised the urgent need to combat drug abuse with a firm hand, citing the worrying rise in drug usage over the past 33 months. The BJP leader drew attention to recent shocking revelations that indicate the drug nexus extends beyond local politics and cinema to an international level.
Annamalai pointed out a specific instance involving a DMK functionary appointed to its NRI wing, who also operates a cinema production company named JSM Productions. According to Annamalai, this individual has alleged links with Jaffer Sadiq, the head of a significant drug cartel in Chennai. Recent arrests made by the Delhi Special Police, with the assistance of the NCB, unveiled a network of associates connected to Jaffer Sadiq, who is currently evading authorities.
The arrests highlighted the trafficking of drugs to countries such as New Zealand, Australia, and Malaysia through 45 consignments weighing a total of 3,500 kilogrammes, valued at Rs 2000 crores over the past three years. Annamalai underscored the severity of the situation, stressing that the drug menace in Tamil Nadu has evolved into an international crisis, necessitating immediate and decisive action.

He explained that synthetic drugs, specifically Pseudoephedrine, were a significant concern due to their chemical composition designed to trigger intense pleasure in the brain, making them the most dangerous substances globally.
The BJP Chief emphasized the pivotal role of Pseudoephedrine in manufacturing Methamphetamine, considered the world’s most expensive drug. Following the recent arrest of three individuals involved in this racket by the Delhi police, shockwaves resonated across the country, exposing the vast network of drug dealers operating under the alleged patronage of a DMK functionary.
Jaffer Sadiq, identified as a close aide to members of the DMK’s first family, was accused of using his influence to further the drug trade. Annamalai highlighted the involvement of women from the Chief Minister’s family in the song release function of JSM Productions, owned by Jaffer Sadiq. Udhayanidhi Stalin reportedly deleted all tweets related to Jaffer Sadiq following the exposure.
The BJP leader accused Jaffer Sadiq’s younger brother of holding a position in Thol Thirumavalavan’s Vidhuthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK), alleging the misuse of party positions to facilitate the trafficking of drugs to foreign countries. Annamalai revealed that the drug network’s magnitude came to light when a foreign vessel carrying drugs from Iran’s Chabahar port was intercepted 60 km off the Gujarat coast. The Navy, Gujarat ATS, and NCS seized 3,300 kgs of drugs, including Hashish, Methamphetamine, and Heroin, valued at Rs. 1,200 crores, with links to Pakistan.
The BJP Chief criticized the DMK government, accusing it of being in a state of panic after the drug racket exposure. He questioned the award received by Jaffer Sadiq from the state DGP, suggesting a close association with law enforcement. Annamalai expressed skepticism about the Tamil Nadu police’s ability to arrest Jaffer Sadiq, considering the alleged award ceremony pictures.
Annamalai’s video message, circulating on social media, highlighted the rampant drug trafficking under the DMK government, emphasizing the need for collective action to combat the rising menace. He alleged that DMK member Chitraarasu owned the courier company, Sahara Express, implicated in drug shipments, and condemned the reported attack on a private TV channel cameraman covering the raid, indicating the extent of the influence of drug cartels in the state.
The BJP Chief expressed skepticism about the DMK government’s ability to control the drug trade, given its alleged connections to the drug cartel. He accused the DMK of being complicit in the drug network’s expansion, asserting that drug money was being invested in the film industry, with close ties to influential personalities and police officials.
Annamalai underscored the global repercussions of drug money, citing historical instances like the financing of the Afghanistan war through heroin money. He urged citizens to recognize the urgency of the situation, emphasizing the destructive impact of drugs on society. Drawing attention to the cartel’s strategic planning, he highlighted its use of cinema to launder black money, evasion of legal scrutiny, and association with influential figures to release movies without impediments.
Addressing the public, Annamalai called for a collective effort to combat the drug menace, starting with educational institutions. He urged parents to initiate conversations about drugs in colleges, emphasizing the role of organizations like Rotary and Lion clubs in raising awareness. The BJP leader stressed the importance of student involvement, encouraging them to take the NCB oath against drugs, report any findings, and set up special centers with dedicated officers in colleges.
Annamalai proposed the establishment of toll-free helplines in colleges, urging students to volunteer against drugs. He emphasized the need for police vigilance around educational institutions, identifying longer-term students as potential suppliers of drugs. The BJP Chief called upon the public to rise above political affiliations and collaborate in the fight against drugs.
