In Chennai Otteri police station, a constable who asked a Muslim woman to take off her hijab for identification was suspended. In Choolai, two police objected to a funeral procession with floral decorations.

In the first incident, Velmurugan is a head constable at Chennai Otteri police station. One Muslim woman came to the police station for an investigation with Purka and a hijab. Velumurgan asked her to lift the hijab to identify her. It is routine for police to ask for details and verify their identity. They will seek any identity proof Aaadhar, ration card, voter ID, driving licence, passport, RC book or any such. According to Hindu Munnani, in a statement, said it is police’s duty to check the person is a bonafide one and whom they want to seek details. They will try to see their face, which is a routine one.

Velmurugan asked the woman to lift the face covering to identify her. She refused to do so by saying it is their religious one; you (he) have no right to interfere in their religious matters. She immediately went out to bring her people. She came again with a crowd only to argue with the policeman. Based on the complaint preferred by Muslim men, the city police commissioner immediately, without any probe, placed him on suspension”. Hindu Munnani said, “Law and police functioning should be neutral. without understanding this , going by the version of the Muslim woman and taking action against the policemen is highly objectionable and shows its impartiality. It was done to appease the minorities.”

It said it was not the first one. Earlier in Pudukottai, when a patient questioned a doctor on the night shift wearing a burka and hijab as to why she should not wear a doctor’s uniform to identify her. She was left with no action. Muslim men came to her rescue, and police arrested the man who accompanied the heart patient. In another incident. During the polling, a booth agent ( BJP) asked the woman to lift her burka to identify her with the picture in the ID. Other agents came in support of her, leaving the BJP booth agent facing police action. He was sent out of the Booth while polling was on. How can the police maintain law and order in an appreciable manner if it goes on minority appeasement? What rule protects them from not showing their faces for identification? In all Government functions, to receive freebies or pongal hampers, they came and pose for pictures along with CM or other Ministers ? They do not object while doing transactions with banks or getting passports. There, they show their full face”. Their partial acceptance when it favours and object when does not favour? They will bat for Islamic personal laws but will oppose stringent Islamic criminal laws? As long as the appeasement is there, such things can’t be abolished. Else Hindus should unit and form their vote bank to teach lesson to this pseudo seculars.”

Hindu Munnani condemned the suspension of the Head Constable who did his duty as mandated. We urge the police department to revoke his suspension and prevent such incidents in future.

In another incident that happened in Choolai Thattankulam Kuzhanthai Achary Street on February 22, where one Mahesh died. To take his mortal remains to a burial ground, his relatives were making floral decorations for a funeral carrier. PF police station SI Vinoth Kumar and another who passed the area on a bike questioned the people without police permission. How could they do floral decorations? It ensued in a verbal argument between Mahesh’s relatives and police officers. According to Bharat Hindu Munnani Chennai district organiser K Satheesh, people asked if there are any rules to get approval for such an event. The policemen said they would not move the place if they failed to come to the station with him for an inquiry. Go and get permission in a third-person singular order irritated the people there. They refused to move away from the place and blocked the road by placing their bike in the middle while sitting on it. We have given a complaint to the police seeking action against the duo.”

The relatives of Mahesh went to the police with the fire pot for cremation fire and complaint to the police commissioner’s office.

In another incident, DMK men pasted posters in a school compound of Palayamkottai Gandhimathi school, which is administered by the HR and CE departments. The wall has writing banning affixing posters and writing on the wall. Such minority appeasement things will come to seize only if the Hindus raise up to fight.
