In a major success for the Jharkhand police against the left wing insurgents, a Maoist commander carrying a hefty bounty on his head has turned himself before the Latehar police and surrendered on Saturday, February 10.
According to the information shared by the police, Maoist zonal commander Laldip Ganjhu alias Kaltu has surrendered before the Latehar police on Saturday, the said commander was carrying a bounty of Rs10 lakhs on his head and a total of 15 cases have been pending against him at separate police station of Jharkhand and neighboring Bihar.
The surrender took place before the Lathehar Superintendent of Police (SP), Anjani Anjan who while briefing the media about the surrender informed that Laldip was impressed by the surrender and rehabilitation policy of the Jharkhand State hence opted to surrender before the police.
The surrendered Maoist has been associated with the outlawed Maoist outfit for around 20 years and was currently active as a zonal commander, he was active along with Manohar Ganjhu, Chandan Singh Kherwar and Kundan Singh Kherwar. He was a zonal commander of the geographical region stretching from North of Latehar i.e. Balumath to the bordering area of Chatra, added SP, Latehar.
Furthermore, the Latehar SP informed that the said Maoist had joined the outlawed outfit at a tender age and have worked with many top Maoist during his association years in the banned outfit, he was initially promoted as a sub-zonal commander and then subsequently promoted to zonal commander.
Meanwhile, expressing his satisfaction over joining the mainstream, the surrendered Maoist Laldip informed that he had joined the Maoist outfit at a tender age when the Maoist used to visit his villages. When confronted about his feeling after joining the mainstream, an elated Laldip replied it’s a significant change.

Back to back surrender
It is to be noted that earlier in a similar development reported from Maoist affected Sukma district of Chhattisgarh, another seasoned cadre of the outlawed Maoist outfit had surrendered before the police on Monday, February 05.
A Maoist identified as Muchaki Mukesh (35), an Area Committee Member (ACM) of the Malengar Area Committee of the proscribed Communist Party of India (Maoist) surrendered before the police on Monday, the surrendered Maoist was carrying a reward of Rs5 lakh on his head, informed the Sukma police in a social media post.
Muchaki, a resident of Sopiras village under Gadiras police station limits of Sukma district had joined the Maoist outfit in the year 2005 and was an active member of the banned outfit since then barring a period of one year when he was residing at his house between 2012-13.

It is worth mentioning here that as many as two hardcore female cadres of the banned Maoist outfit had also surrendered before the police in Maoist infested Boudh district of Odisha on Sunday, February 4.
The surrendered took place at DPO conference hall at Boudh, where both the female Maoist cadre surrender before the Inspector General of police Berhampur and other senior officials of the police, informed Boudh police on Tuesday, February 06.
Notably, the security forces in recent times have intensified search operations in Maoist affected regions across States with an aim to further the ongoing counter-insurgency drives against the Left Wing Extremists leading to arrest, encounters and surrender of the extremists due to ever mounting pressure of the forces.
