Guwahati: On January 21, President Droupadi Murmu extended warm greetings to the people of Meghalaya, Tripura, and Manipur on their respective Statehood Days. Recognising the unique blend of nature’s bounty and rich cultural heritage within these states, President Murmu expressed optimism for their continued progress, prosperity, and peace.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi also joined in extending wishes, specifically addressing Manipur on its Statehood Day. PM Modi commended Manipur for its significant contributions to India’s progress and expressed pride in the state’s culture and traditions. His message, posted on a social media platform, reflected a deep appreciation for Manipur’s role in the nation’s development.
Meghalaya, celebrating its 52nd Statehood Day, received heartfelt greetings from Chief Minister Conrad Sangma. In his message, CM Sangma emphasised the importance of this day, urging residents to reflect on the vision, values, and spirit of their forefathers. He called for collective efforts to work in harmony for the peace and progress of Meghalaya.
Notably, the Foundation Day of Manipur, Meghalaya, and Tripura was marked by a programme organised by Hon’ble Lt. Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena in Delhi. The event, themed ‘Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat,’ showcased unity and cultural diversity. CM Manik Saha, representing Tripura, highlighted the participation of Tripura residents in Delhi and presented a replica of Tripura Sundari Temple & Risa to the Hon’ble Lt. Governor. Additionally, students from Tripura Students Forum performed the traditional Hojagiri dance.
Chief Minister N Biren Singh of Manipur, speaking at the 52nd Statehood Day Celebration, outlined the government’s special interest in the development of hill districts. He underscored progress in sports, education, health infrastructure, and employment, citing initiatives like the indigenous wrestling stadium in Senapati and Youth Skill Development Centres. CM Singh expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah for their commitments to end the Free Movement Regime and secure the Myanmar border, considering these assurances as significant gifts for the people of Manipur.
However, CM Singh also addressed the unfortunate incidents of attacks on innocent civilians, condemning them strongly. He emphasised the unity of the indigenous people of Manipur in facing challenges to the state’s unity and integrity. While open to dialogue, CM Singh urged an end to attacks on civilians, stating that the State security force is prepared for any challenges.
In a solemn moment, CM Singh saluted security forces and paid homage to civilians who lost their lives. Expressing concern for relief camp inmates, he urged DCs to visit the camps regularly to address grievances. CM Singh asserted the government’s commitment to safeguard and protect the State, reiterating the value of every life.
Reflecting on Manipur’s history, CM Singh highlighted its merger into Bharat in 1949 and the attainment of Statehood in 1972. He emphasised the government’s commitment to inclusive development, bridging gaps between hills and valleys. The State has witnessed significant changes in various sectors, leading to its top ranking in the India Today survey for three consecutive years.
CM Singh acknowledged that despite progress, certain incidents had halted developmental works in some districts. However, he reaffirmed the government’s dedication to equal development and emphasised ongoing efforts to bring positive change to the hill districts.
The Statehood Day celebrations included a March Past parade with various contingents, showcasing the unity and discipline of Manipur. The function was attended by Cabinet Ministers, MLAs, HAC Chairman, Chief Secretary, Security Advisor, police and civil officers, IGAR (S), and senior officers from paramilitary forces.
In conclusion, the Statehood Day celebrations in Meghalaya, Tripura, and Manipur not only marked milestones in their histories but also highlighted the commitment of leaders to inclusive development, unity, and progress. As these states continue on their path of growth, the collective spirit of their people remains resilient and determined.
