Assam CM slams Congress’ Ayodhya Ram Mandir Pran Prathistha snub, links it to Nehru’s legacy of Anti-Hindu stance

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma criticised the Congress party for declining an invitation to the Pran Pratista ceremony of the Ram Mandir in Ayodhya. Sarma contends that this decision perpetuates the Congress' historical image as anti-Hindu, citing a tradition that traces back to Jawaharlal Nehru's boycott of the Somnath Temple inauguration

Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has criticised the Congress party for declining an invitation to the Pran Pratista ceremony of the Ram Mandir in Ayodhya. CM Sarma contends that this decision perpetuates the Congress’ historical image as anti-Hindu, citing a tradition that traces back to Jawaharlal Nehru’s boycott of the Somnath Temple inauguration. Expressing his disappointment, the Chief Minister highlights the missed opportunity for the Congress to reshape its narrative.

In emphasising that being pro-Hindu doesn’t necessitate being anti-Muslim, CM Sarma injects a nuanced perspective into the discourse, particularly during a moment of pride for Sanatanis. Slamming the Congress party for not accepting the invitation for the Pran Pratista ceremony of Ram Mandir,  Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma expressed that the party has all along worked against Hindu and Hindu civilisation.

CM Sarma asserted that the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) inadvertently provided the Congress party with a golden opportunity to atone for their past actions against the Hindu community. Despite their historical opposition to Hindu causes, the VHP extended an invitation to the Congress, which CM Sarma believes they missed the golden opportunity.

“By declining this opportunity, the Congress has once again missed a chance to shed its anti-Hindu image. This tradition dates back to Jawaharlal Nehru’s boycott of the Somnath Temple inauguration and continues with the present generation of Congress leaders. It’s unfortunate,” remarked the Chief Minister. He further emphasized that being pro-Hindu doesn’t necessitate being anti-Muslim, especially during a moment of pride for Sanatanis.

CM Sarma’s comments raise questions about the Congress party’s stance on Hindu issues, potentially impacting its image in the years to come. The Chief Minister expressed pity for the Congress, hinting at the missed chance to change their narrative. The Congress party will remain anti Hindu for decades to come after denying the invitation for the grand ceremony in Ayodhya on 22nd January.

Rahul Gandhi’s Nyay Yatra in Assam: Tourists are welcomed

In a separate development, CM Sarma responded to Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s proposed Nyay Yatra in Assam, scheduled to commence on January 18. CM Sarma took a diplomatic stance, stating that Assam welcomed tourists, including the political kind. He pointed out that 70 lakh tourists visited Assam last year, making the state open to hosting more. Despite potential political counteractions from the BJP, CM Sarma clarified that the government had not received any request for permission for Rahul Gandhi’s yatra.

Earlier, BJP National President JP Nadda criticised Rahul Gandhi’s Nyay Yatra, accusing the Congress of advocating justice after perpetrating injustice across the nation. Nadda highlighted historical instances where Congress, under leaders like Indira Gandhi, dismissed elected state governments, citing misuse of Article 356 of the Indian Constitution.

Nadda pointed out that under Indira Gandhi’s leadership, 56 elected state governments were toppled, while Nehru dismissed 9 administrations. The trend continued during Rajiv Gandhi and Manmohan Singh’s tenures, showcasing a pattern of government changes.
