In a harrowing incident, a 20-year-old youth named Mahir was brutally stabbed 50 times in Delhi’s Bhagirathi Vihar area on December 27 by an 18-year-old assailant, Arman. The motive behind the gruesome attack was revealed to be Mahir’s interaction with a girl on a video call, a connection that both Arman and Mahir shared.

The disturbing turn of events unfolded as Arman and Mahir had befriended the same 21-year-old woman on Instagram. It came to light that the woman favored Mahir over Arman, sparking jealousy and anger in the latter.

Fueled by rage, Arman snatched the woman’s phone to discover multiple video call logs between her and Mahir. Days later, Arman lured Mahir under the pretext of returning the woman’s phone and, upon his arrival, allegedly stabbed him to death, as reported by the police.

Deputy Commissioner of Police, Northeast, Joy Tirkey, stated that Mahir had caught the woman conversing with Arman on a video call, leading to a verbal altercation. The jealousy-driven confrontation escalated, with Mahir abusing Arman.

“On that day, Arman had called Mahir on the pretext of giving the girl’s phone back to him. When he arrived, Arman, Faisal, and Sameer stabbed him to death,” explained the DCP.

The police promptly arrested Arman, along with his accomplices Faisal (21) and Mohammed Sameer (19), based on the woman’s statement and other corroborating evidence. Mahir’s lifeless body was discovered on the roadside, soaked in blood, prompting a murder FIR registration after a PCR call around 9 pm on December 27.

Further investigation revealed that Mahir and Arman were engaged in a call before the murder, both conversing with the woman. A knife found at the crime scene was seized, and Mahir’s body was transferred to the GTB Hospital mortuary for a post-mortem examination.

Mahir, employed as a supervisor in a company manufacturing flex boards in central Delhi’s Paharganj, met a tragic end due to the fatal confrontation. The accused have been remanded to judicial custody, and a charge sheet is anticipated to be filed against them in connection with this heart-wrenching incident.
