As many as five to six cadres of the outlawed Maoist outfit have reportedly sustained bullet injuries in an encounter between the security forces and the Maoists in insurgency-hit Sukma district of Chhattisgarh on Wednesday, December 20, according to a few media reports.

The incident occurred after a joint team of security personnel was out on a combing operation in the Chintalnaar area where a gunfight broke out between the forces and the extremists near Kottapalli. It’s been reported that after sensing the upper hand of the security forces in the gunfight, the ultras soon fled the spot.
According to the reports, the joint team has also busted a Maoist camp in the region and a search operation is still underway in the vicinity of the spot. As many as five to six Maoist cadres have sustained bullet injuries in the gunfight, and more details about the operation are still awaited.

It is to be noted that the security forces have tightened up the grip in the Maoist-affected regions of the State after CM Vishnu Deo Sai held a high level meeting to access the situation on ground and instructed the officials to take all the necessary steps after back-to-back incidents of Maoist violence led to the martyrdom of a total of three security personnel in last week.

IEDs unearthed in Chaibasa
In another piece of similar news, security personnel belonging to the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), Jharkhand Jaguar (JJ), Commando Battalion for Resolute Action (CoBRA) and the district police have unearthed two Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) during a joint search operation launched in the Maoist-infested Tonto police station limits of Chaibasa on Wednesday.

pic.twitter.com/FKQTViBDmY

The personnel during the operation unearthed two IEDs weighing 10 and 5kg respectively. The development occurred hours after a joint team of security forces in another operation had also unearthed 3 IEDs planted by the extremist from the forest area of Sonua police station limits of Chaibasa. All the unearthed IEDs were later destroyed by the Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS).

It is worth mentioning here that, considered the stronghold of the ultras, the Chaibasa region has been prone to IEDs explosions triggered by the extremists, leading to the causalities of security personnel and local villagers on many occasions.
