Chhattisgarh: Maoists dug potholes, dropped pamphlets in Sukma’s Jagargunda calling for nationwide shutdown

Amid claims of containing the menace of left-wing insurgency in the state with the help of the union government, the Maoists outfit on Sunday, December 17, 2023 reportedly dug potholes and dropped pamphlets at a couple of places in insurgency-hit Chhattisgarh

Hours after Chief Minister (CM) Vishnu Deo Sai, chaired a high-level meeting over the current state of left-wing insurgency in Chhattisgarh and claimed that the decades-old issue of the Maoist insurgency would be eliminated with the help of the union government, the Maoist outfit dropped pamphlets and erected banners at a couple of places in the state.

According to the reports floating in the media, the proscribed outfit has dug potholes on roads at Jagargunda and erected a banner while torching a National Mineral Development Corporation site in Kirandul of Dantewada. The extremists have also dropped pamphlets pertaining to their nation-wide shutdown call on December 22.

In the pamphlets dropped, the extremist outfit has once again labelled a similar allegation on the union government that what the banned group had put before in the press notes issued by its Dakshin Sub-Zonal bureau and Dandkaranya Special Zonal Committee recently.

While appealing to observe a nationwide shutdown on December 22, the Maoists in the pamphlet have claimed that the union government has been running a fierce campaign against the Maoist outfit in Jharkhand from last 22 months.

Further, the ultras have claimed that the union government and the state government of Jharkhand are working together in the interest of business conglomerates in Jharkhand, a state that owns the lion’s share of natural resources available in the country.

The Maoists have also alleged that the government has also arrested a large number of people, including members of the central and regional committees of the Maoist outfit and journalists like Rupesh Kumar Singh, in fabricated cases against which the outfit has given a call to observe a resilience week from December 16-22 in regions under their holds.

CM Sai Chaired High-Level Meet

It is worth mentioning here that the newly elected CM of the state, Vishnu Deo Sai chaired a high-level meeting with the concerned officials on Sunday, December 17 and assured that his government will work in accordance with the union government to uproot the Maoist insurgency in the state.

The meeting was called in wake of back-to-back incidents of Improvised Explosive Device (IED) explosions detonated by the extremists in separate places alongside an attack on the security personnel near Bedre camp under Jagargunda police station limits of Sukma within a span of only five days.

It is to be noted that as many as three security personnel, including a sub-inspector of the Central Reserve Police Force  (CRPF) have lost their lives in three major attacks carried out by the extremists in the last week.

It is pertinent to mention here that the state of Chhattisgarh has been badly affected by the left-wing insurgency for decades, where the extremists are still operational in as many as eight districts of the tribal-dominated state.
