Guwahati: In a remarkable feat, Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma received nine Guinness World Record certificates on November 29, recognising the success of Assam’s Amrit Brikshya Andolan. The prestigious certificates were presented by Guinness World Record Adjudicator Swapnil Dangarikar at a ceremony held at Srimanta Sankardev Kalakshetra in Guwahati.
The Amrit Brikshya Andolan, spearheaded by Chief Minister Sarma, aimed at bolstering Assam’s economy through forest conservation. The initiative gained widespread recognition as the state set records in nine different categories, showcasing the collaborative efforts of various segments of society.
The first record was established in the “Longest Line of Potted Saplings” category, where a 22.22 km spiral arrangement of 3,22,444 polypotted seedlings, including Agar and Mahogany species, adorned the Veterinary College Field in Khanapara, Guwahati.
Another milestone was achieved in the “Largest Number of Saplings Distributed at one venue in 24 hours” category, with 3,22,444 saplings distributed at the same venue, surpassing the earlier record set in 2018 by UP Forest Department.
The Amrit Brikshya Andolan also set records for the “Most Trees Planted by a Team in 24 hours” and the “Most Trees Planted by a Team in One Hour,” reflecting the collective commitment to environmental sustainability.
Unique categories such as “Largest Potted Seedlings Mosaic” and “Most Pledges Received for an Environmental Sustainability Campaign in one month (Online)” showcased the innovative spirit of the initiative. Record was also made on largest online photo album of people planting tree.
Chief Minister Sarma expressed his gratitude to the people of Assam for embracing the movement and highlighted the Janbhagidari Model, which encouraged participation from all sections of society.
Looking ahead, Sarma announced ambitious plans to plant three crore and five crore saplings in 2024 and 2025, respectively. He also shared the vision of staging the Bihu dance in New Delhi in 2025, involving 25 thousand participants.
Environment and Forests Minister Chandra Mohan Patowary, additional chief secretary Rabi Sankar Prasad, PCCF MK Yadava, along with other dignitaries, joined in applauding the success of the Amrit Brikshya Andolan. The movement not only secured international recognition but also reinforced Assam’s commitment to a green and sustainable future.
