Illegal Bangleshi intruders arrested by Railway Protection Force
The issue of illegal Bangladeshi migration to Northeastern states, particularly Tripura, persists, with the Railway Protection Force (RPF) of N. F. Railway showcasing continued vigilance and action against such infiltrations. The continuous efforts by the RPF highlight the challenges faced by authorities in curbing illegal immigration, emphasising the need for sustained measures to address the issue. The arrests underscore the collaborative approach required to tackle not only the infiltrators but also those aiding and abetting such activities within the region.
The swift operation also led to the arrest of two Indian tout/agents involved in facilitating the illegal crossing of Bangladeshi infiltrators into Indian territory aprt from 10 Bangladeshi infiltrators. The Northern Frontier (NF) Railway disclosed these details in a press briefing on November 25.
On November 21, 2023, the team from Agartala post, in collaboration with BSF personnel, detained three male illegal Bangladeshi migrants. Additionally, an Indian agent facilitating their illegal entry into Indian territory was also apprehended during the operation. Subsequently, all individuals apprehended were handed over to the Officer-in-Charge of GRP in Agartala for further legal proceedings.
Continuing their efforts, on November 23, 2023, the RPF and GRP teams in Agartala, Northern Frontier (N.F.) Railway, apprehended seven more illegal Bangladeshi migrants during a routine check at Agartala railway station. An Indian agent assisting them in the migration process was also taken into custody. Similar to the previous incident, the apprehended individuals were handed over to the GRP post in Agartala for further legal action.
These developments highlight the persistent challenges faced by authorities in curbing illegal immigration and the importance of joint efforts between security forces to address the issue effectively. The coordinated actions aim to not only apprehend illegal migrants but also target those individuals aiding and abetting such activities within the region.
The Railway Protection Force (RPF) continues to play a pivotal role in thwarting illegal activities and intrusions within railway jurisdictions, enhancing safety for train passengers. Highlighting their commitment to these efforts, it is noteworthy that on November 9, the National Investigation Agency (NIA), in collaboration with Assam Police, apprehended 47 touts or middlemen involved in facilitating the infiltration of Rohingya individuals from Bangladesh into India. Special Director General of Police (DGP), Assam Police, Harmeet Singh, emphasized the NIA’s leadership in a nationwide crackdown, supported by Assam Police.
The operation stems from a case transferred to the NIA from the Assam government after the arrest of 10 touts from Tripura in July of the current year. Singh outlined that the 47 individuals apprehended were engaged in human trafficking and facilitating the illegal infiltration of Rohingya, originally from Myanmar, through Bangladesh into India. The crackdown spanned across Assam, Tripura, and northern India, highlighting the collaborative efforts to combat such activities.
The railway authorities, including the RPF, play a critical role in these collective endeavours to ensure the security and integrity of transportation infrastructure, aligning with broader national efforts to address illegal immigration and trafficking issues.
