Violence erupted on the third day of the controversial Nava Kerala Sadas as the Youth Congress leaders alleged that the DYFI men used helmets, sticks, plant pots, and iron rods during the assault. Later on, police used water cannons to disperse the protesting Youth Congress workers when they marched towards the Nava Kerala Sadas in Kannur. Police registered a case against 30 DYFI men under 307 IPC, that is, an attempt to murder.

However, the reaction of CM Pinarayi Vijayan took everyone by surprise as he stated that DYFI men were on a life-saving mission. He said while he was watching the scene from the bus, “some guys were jumping towards the bus; then, some youths got hold of them and pushed them away from the scene. Was it not to save them, CM asked. Don’t they have to use force to save the people who risk their life, he asked?

He said it was an exemplary action of DYFI. His request is to keep on doing like this. Reports suggest, when a media person asked him if beating with the plant pots is life-saving exercise, he stopped the press conference sans replying it.

Political observers and ordinary people are not taking the CM’s reaction in lighter vein. He is presiding the home ministry as well. So, if the violence is justified by a home minister like this, it will be an encouragement to the men of violence, the people think.

Meanwhile, K Muraleedharan MP, former minister and former Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) President told the media that if Youth Congress workers are attacked again, his party would take law into the hands.

KPCC president K. Sudhakaran reportedly said that Nava Kerala Sadas would not reach Thiruvananthapuram. He alone knows what he meant.

Close on the heels of the High Court’s stay of the order of Director Public Instruction to provide school buses for the Nava Kerala Sadas, now Local Self Government bodies controlled by the opposition Congress-led United Democratic Front (UDF) have reportedly geared up to move the court against the instruction to spend their funds for Nava Kerala Sadas.

Now, right-thinking people wonder, if this is the scenario in three days since the Sadas started, what will be in the store when it moves to further districts.
