Four-day celebrations of Chhath Puja begin today

The four-day celebrations of Chhath Puja have begun today in different parts of the country with the traditional Nahay Khay ceremony.
Puja will conclude on November 20 morning after paying oblation to the rising Sun. Chhath Puja is celebrated to worship the Sun God and thank him for supporting life on earth.
In Bihar, elaborate arrangements have been made at various sun temples including at Aurangabad, Nalanda and Patna.
Chhath is an ancient Hindu Vedic festival which is mainly celebrated in Bihar, Jharkhand and Uttar Pradesh and the Madhesh region of Nepal. The Chhath Puja is dedicated to the God Surya and Shashthi devi (Chhathi Maiya) in order to thank them for bestowing the bounties of life on earth and to request the granting of certain wishes.

 

Every year, lakhs of people from Bihar and Uttar Pradesh observe Chhath in Delhi.
