In a joint effort to address the alarming rise in pollution levels in the capital city, Delhi University Students’ Union (DUSU) and Students for Development (SFD) collaboratively organised a rally – the ‘Environmental Awareness Drive: YOUTH WALK.’ The event aimed to draw attention to the burgeoning pollution crisis in Delhi, which has now earned the undesirable distinction of being the world’s most polluted city.

The event was commenced at the gate of SGTB Khalsa College in North campus, bringing together a diverse group of concerned citizens and students from various colleges. The participants embarked on a journey that would make a significant statement about their dedication to mitigating pollution in Delhi. The Youth Walk was also joined by NCC Cadets of Delhi University who made a stop at the St Stephen’s College and it concluded at the iconic Vivekananda statue located in front of the Arts Faculty, Delhi University.

DUSU Secretary, Aprajita, stated, “The ‘Environmental Awareness Drive: YOUTH WALK’ demonstrates the commitment of Delhi University Students’ Union and Students for Development to engage the youth and the wider community in a collective effort to combat pollution and work towards a cleaner and greener Delhi. By addressing the root causes and encouraging sustainable practices, we aim to inspire change and lead the way in combating Delhi’s pollution crisis.”

Amit Verma, convener of SFD North Campus, stated, “The multifaceted causes of the pollution in Delhi include emissions from vehicles, hazardous gases from factories, the burning of crops, and adverse weather conditions. We urge citizens to take proactive steps to combat pollution, taking steps such as tree plantation drives to enhance green cover, which can substantially improve air quality during the winter months. The adoption of public transportation and e-vehicles as eco-friendly alternatives should be encouraged.”
