Manipur: Huge cache of arms, ammunitions recovered by security forces; Militant leader arrested with drugs

Security forces continue search operations in the trouble hit state of Manipur. On October17, search operations were conducted by security forces in the fringe and vulnerable areas of Imphal-East, Kakching, Bishnupur, Churachandpur, Thoubal and Imphal West districts.

During the operations joint team of security forces and state police, recovered 08 arms (Assault Rifle-01, .303-01, SMG Carbine-03, Sten Gun-01, 9mm Pistol-02), 62 ammunition, 18 explosives, 01 Country made Local Bomb Launcher (Pompi) 02 wireless Sets (KENWOOD), 02Tube Launching, 01 Smoke Grenade and 05 BP Jackets in Imphal-East district. 02 arms (9 mm Pistol with magazine, 01 Local single barrel gun, one 12mm bore live round, 01 Heavy calibre machine gun rounds 21, Heavy Mortar (10ft), 01 Country improvised Bomb, 01 Rocket Propelled Grenade, 01 were recovered in Old Dampi village in Churachandpur district.

Joint operations were also conducted by the combined team of state and central security forces at Phubala area, Kumbi Thingel Leikai, Saiton Hyeikon village, Moirang Khunou Mayai Leikai in Bishnupur District, Kasturi crossing, Thangal bazaar, Moidangpok Khunjao village in Imphal West District, Langmeithek village, Tentha Khunou, Tejpur Mayai Leikai, Likla Kambong village, Kiyam Litanpok area in Thoubal District, Pallel Maning Leikai, opposite Pioneer English School and adjoining areas, Bijoypur Mamang and Maning Leikai in Kakching District. More than 600 houses were searched and over 1400 persons were verified. No arrests were made. Moreover joint operations were also conducted in Vajing and adjoining areas, Khoinui village, Tollen Village and adjoining areas in Churachandpur District. In these search operations, around 150 houses were searched and around 200 persons were verified.

Abducted person rescued

On October 16, one person was abducted by unknown miscreants from Ithai in Bishnupur district. Bishnupur police conducted searches in various areas of the district and rescued the abducted person. Police team also recovered one arm (SLR Rifle),ten ammunition, one Tear Gas Gun, seven munition shells and two smart phones allegedly used by the miscreants.

Militant arrested with drugs

On October 16, based on specific information of the presence of some underground militants at Phaitol village, security forces launched an operation. In the operation, the team came across a white coloured Bolero bearing registration no. MN03P1934 near the community hall playground of Phaitol village. On verification of the driver, he was identified as Lamtinsei Singson (50 yrs) of Chiengkwnpang in Churachandpur district.

During the police interrogation he revealed that he is the Commander in Chief of UTLA/KNO (Seipu group) presently in suspension of operations (SoO) camp of Chongkhujou in Henglep of Churachandpur district. On checking of the vehicle, 10 soap cases containing brown sugar weighing around 124 grams in total were recovered by the police. The person with the vehicle along with the recovered items was handed over to Jiribam police station for further legal action. It should be mentioned that security forces are continuously running search operations across the state and recovered hundreds of arms and thousands of ammunition along with other war-like accessories in the past weeks. No major incidents of violence have been reported from Manipur in past few days.
