In what can be termed as a heart-winning spirit shown by the security personnel, an injured Maoist has been airlifted to Ranchi after he was found in a wounded state during a counter-insurgency operation launched in Jharkhand on Sunday, October 15. According to the information received, the security forces have launched a combing operation in Maoist-affected forest regions of Chaibasa where an encounter broke out between the forces and the Maoist.
It’s been learnt that sensing the upper hand of the security forces, the Maoists fled the spot, leaving behind a minor cadre who had sustained serious injuries during the encounter. However, the security forces, after tracing the minor boy, carried him on a makeshift bed and provided immediate medical aid, following which the latter was airlifted to Ranchi, where he is being treated at Ranchi Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS).
Meanwhile, sharing a few pictures of the incident the Jharkhand police in a twitter post also informed that routine operations against the Naxals (Maoist) are being carried out in Kolhan region, the last fortress held by the Maoist in Jharkhand. The police wrote “an injured Naxal has been airlifted to Ranchi while the retaliatory action has been continued in the last bastion of Maoist, Kolhan region. ” Service is the Goal”.

Back to back operations against ultras in Jharkhand
It is to be noted that the Jharkhand police along with the different units of Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), Jharkhand Jaguar, an elite unit of the Jharkhand police specialized in counter insurgency operations have been running back to back operations in the Kolhan region to ultimately eradicate the Maoist insurgency from the state known to be an erstwhile bastion of the Maoist.
Notably, the security personnel have launched various operations in forests of Chaibasa, Chatra, Lohardaga and other regions of the state still affected by the Left Wing Extremism (LWE) lately leading to unearthing, seizure, destruction of huge amount of arms and ammunition belonging to the outlawed Communist Party of India (Maoist) and it’s other splinter groups.

These operations are also backed up by other intel specific raids being conducted by the security forces and police to nab the active cadres of the outlawed groups from their possible hideouts leading to arrest of many top leaders and commanders of the banned outfits who look after the ground operations of these extremist groups. The growing presence of the security forces in Maoist strongholds has also forced a number of Maoist commanders to turn themselves before the police and surrender.
Recent arrests
It is to be noted that in a similar operation launched by the Jharkhand police, as many as five active cadre of the banned Maoist outfit Tritiya Sammelan Prastuti Committee (TSPC), a splinter group of the outlawed Communist Party of India (Maoist) were arrested from Maoist affected Chatra district on Saturday, October 13.
Acting on a tip-off about the presence of TSPC cadres in Piparwar police station limits a team led by Sub Divisional Police Officer (SDPO), Semaria raided and nabbed two sub-zonal commanders of the outlawed TSPC along with their three acquaintances. The arrested Maoist were identified as Prabhat alias Virasat alias Prem Kumar Ganjhu, sub-zonal commander of TSPC, Vishu Ganjhu alias Ashok Ganjhu, sub-zonal commander of TSPC, Arun Prajapati, Jitendra Kumar Rajak and Naresh Kumar Bhokta, all active cadres of the banned TSPC.
During the raid, the police team had also seized a huge quantity of arms and ammunition from the possession of the accused. The recovery included 01 AK-56 rifle, 01 semi automatic SLR rifle, 01 US made M1 rifle, 01 315 bore rifle, two country made pistols and around 275 rounds of live cartridges of different calibers. The team also seized 10 cell phones and around 90 slips from the possession of the ultras.
Notably, In another significant development, a zonal commander of the Jharkhand Jan Mukti Parishad (JJMP), another extremist group active in Jharkhand had also turned himself before the police and surrendered on 22nd of last month. The development occurred when former sub zonal commander Kamlesh Singh alias Mukesh ji produced himself before the Latehar police and surrendered.

It was then reported that Kamlesh was inspired by the surrender and rehabilitation scheme and thus decided to shun the path of violence and joined the mainstream. It is pertinent to mention here that according to the figures released by the Jharkhand police, as many as 1300 cadres of the Maoist groups have been arrested by the police in the last three years.
The arrest of the ordinary Maoist cadres, their ground commanders and a few senior leaders have ultimately led the forces to establish their strong grip on the regions like Budha Pahad and Parasnath Pahadi, earlier considered to be core Maoist zones.
