Jharkhand: Two sub-zonal commanders of outlawed TSPC held in Chatra, arms and ammunition seized

Chatra police in a significant operation launched on Saturday, nabbed two sub-zonal commanders of the banned Maoist outfit TSPC in Jharkhand. The police team also seized arms and ammunition from the possession of the ultras that include sophisticated weapons such as AK-56, semi-automatic rifle and US made M1 rifle

In a major success in the war against the Left Wing Extremism (LWE), Jharkhand police on Saturday, October 13, arrested as many as five active cadre of the banned Maoist outfit Tritiya Sammelan Prastuti Committee (TSPC), a splinter group of the outlawed Communist Party of India (Maoist) from Maoist affected Chatra district.

Acting on a tip-off about the presence of TSPC cadres in Piparwar police station limits a team led by Sub Divisional Police Officer (SDPO), Semaria raided and nabbed two sub-zonal commanders of the outlawed TSPC along with their three acquaintances. The arrested Maoists have been identified as Prabhat alias Virasat alias Prem Kumar Ganjhu, sub-zonal commander of TSPC, Vishu Ganjhu alias Ashok Ganjhu, sub-zonal commander of TSPC, Arun Prajapati, Jitendra Kumar Rajak and Naresh Kumar Bhokta, all active cadres of the banned TSPC.

During the raid, the police team has also seized a huge quantity of arms and ammunition from the possession of the accused. The recovery included 01 AK-56 rifle, 01 semi automatic SLR rifle, 01 US made M1 rifle, 01 315 bore rifle, two country made pistols and around 275 rounds of live cartridges of different calibers. The team also seized 10 cell phones and around 90 slips from the possession of the ultras.

Seized arms and ammunitions

Interacting with the media, Superintendent of Police (SP), Rakesh Ranjan said that the police have got some intel about the presence of members of TSPC under Piparwar police station limits following which the police team raided and arrested them along with arms and ammunition.

“I think it’s a major blow for them. I would like to make an appeal to all the coal businessmen, railway contractors of Chatra district that if you get any threat from any extremist groups do not heed to their demands and don’t pay any levy to them. If you get any such calls then share the information with us, our team is committed to provide you all a safe and fearless atmosphere to work added”, SP Rakesh Ranjan.

It is to be noted that a number of coal businessmen, railway and other contractors were recently threatened by the members of the TSPC outfit following which the police have been continuously raiding their possible hideouts to nab them. Earlier in another such raid a special team of Chatra police had raided and arrested as many as two active Maoist of the TSPC on October 06. The arrested cadres were wanted in as many as six cases lodged in different police stations.

Notably, the Jharkhand police have been running continuous counter insurgency operations in different Maoist affected regions of the state. Earlier in another operation launched in core Maoist zone of Goilkera of Chaibasa, a joint team of personnel from Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), and Jharkhand Jaguar (JJ) had unearthed as many as 03 Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) on Thursday, October 12.

The joint team during the operation had also recovered spike holes planted to harm the advancing parties of security forces in Maoist stronghold of Goilkera. Earlier in another such operation launched in insurgency-hit Pattarob forest area under Tonto police station limits of Chaibasa, a joint team of CRPF and JJ had also recovered IEDs and spike holes. Later on the team destroyed all the recovered items with the help of the Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS) unit.
