Amidst the fervent cries of ‘Tera mera rishta kya.. la Illaha Illallah,’ students from Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) organised a procession expressing their dissent against Israel on, October 8. Their protest was in response to the government’s retaliatory measures taken against the Islamist terrorist organisation Hamas, working from the Gaza Strip.
Allahu Akbar slogans raised in AMU
These students carried out processions against the retaliatory action taken by the Israeli government against Hamas. These students, mostly Muslims were chanting Allah-u-Akbar and slogans like tera mera rishta kya la Illaha Illallah, and carrying placards with slogans against Israel and in support of Palestine. One such placard said, ‘AMU stands with Palestine, Free Palestine; this land is Palestine, not Israel’.

According to media accounts, the rally saw participation from numerous students from the university. They chanted slogans in opposition to Israel and in support of Palestine, as well as recited Islamic phrases such as “Allah-u-Akbar” and “la ilaha illallah.” They asserted that Israel was committing atrocities against Palestine and voiced their opposition to oppression worldwide.
No arrest in the case so far
Organiser called up the Civil Line police station in-charge Vijay Singh, on October 10. He informed us that the police teams are still identifying the accused from the CCTV footage of the protest, and the named accused in the FIR are not yet arrested. The police only know their names, not their addresses or their parents names. Dedicated action will be taken against them, he added.
The video was shared widely on social media platforms, demanding action as these students were supporting terrorist organisation. Soon, the Uttar Pradesh police swung in action and registered a complaint against four identified as other unidentified students on, October 9.
FIR registered against four identified and other students
A First Information Report (number—643/2023) was registered in this case at the Civil Lines police station on October 9.
As per the FIR, Sub Inspector Azhar Hasan was patrolling around Sayyed Gate when he received information about the procession, from social media accounts. Soon he began his investigations and found that some students of AMU namely Atif, Khalid, Kamran, Naved and other unidentified students were raising pro-palestine slogans.
In the protest march, these students were supporting Palestine and the terrorist attack on Israel, supporting Hamas with derogatory slogans. The procession was taken from Duck Point to Sayyed Gate without the permission of the authorities.
As the videos went viral on social media, this led to communal tensions, and hence prohibitory actions were taken. These students have committed an offence under IPC sections 153A (promoting enmity between different groups), 188 (disobeying public servant on duty) and 505 (Statements conducing to public mischief).
PhD, MBA, MA students support Palestine
As per media reports, the accused Khalid is studying philosophy (PhD), Atif is pursuing his MBA (Masters in Business Administration), and Mohammad Naved and Kamran are pursuing their Masters in Arts (MA).
AMU Proctor Mohammad Wasim Ali said that the march was organized without prior permission, hence it was illegal. He said, ‘AMU stands by the stand that our country has taken regarding the ongoing war. We cannot allow any indiscipline on a sensitive international issue on campus.
He said, ‘We have also ordered an internal inquiry and action will be taken against all those who violate the rule of law.’
Proctor said students attending the march were chanting pro-Palestinian slogans and calling Israel’s bombing an “atrocity against innocent natives to establish domination.”
Hamas attacked Isreal
The fierce confrontation between the Israeli military and the Palestinian extremist group Hamas has, thus far, resulted in over 1,000 casualties and 2,200 injuries.
Since the surprise attack by Hamas on October 7, morning, over 700 individuals have lost their lives in Israel. In retaliatory actions, Israel’s counterstrikes have claimed the lives of 370 people in Palestine.
Hamas launched an extensive surprise attack against Israel, firing approximately 5,000 rockets from the Gaza Strip, marking one of the most significant assaults on Israel in recent years.
“Israel is in state of war and will will in” says PM
Responding to the situation, Israeli forces launched military offensives towards Gaza after Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu declared, “We are at war, and we will win” in a video statement on Saturday (October 7). He added, “Our enemy will pay a price the type of which it has never known.”
Israel has announced ‘Operation Iron Swords’ against Hamas following the declaration of a ‘state of war’. A fierce battle is currently underway in Israel and the Gaza Strip.
PM Modi supports Israel
Prime Minister of Bharat, Narendra Modi also extended his support to the victims and wrote, ‘India stands in solidarity with Israel in this tough time’. On social media platform X, PM wrote, “Deeply shocked by the news of terrorist attacks in Israel. Our thoughts and prayers are with the innocent victims and their families. We stand in solidarity with Israel at this difficult hour.”

In a resolute message directed at Hamas, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu emphasized on October 10, that while Israel did not initiate this conflict, they are determined to bring it to an end.
As a part of their response to Hamas, Israel has deployed a formidable force of 300,000 troops. This marks the largest mobilization since the 1973 Yom Kippur War when Israel called up 400,000 reservists, as reported by the Times of Israel.

Netanyahu addressed the nation, stating, “Israel is at war. We didn’t seek this conflict. It was imposed upon us in the most brutal and savage manner. But even though Israel didn’t instigate this war, Israel is committed to seeing it through to its conclusion.”

“Hamas will understand that by attacking us, they have made a mistake of historic proportions. We will exact a price that will be remembered by them and Israel’s other enemies for decades to come,” said Netanyahu.
“Hamas is ISIS. And just as the forces of civilization united to defeat ISIS, the forces of civilization must support Israel in defeating Hamas,” Netanyahu said.
