A central security agency has received an email threatening to assassinate PM Narendra Modi and blow up the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad and demanding 500 crore rupees as well as the release of jailed gangster Lawrence Bishnoi, officers said.
Government Action
The National Investigation Agency (NIA) alerted the Mumbai Police about the threat mail and immediately shared this content with the various agencies associated and designated to provide security to PM Narendra Modi along with the Gujarat Police.
The Mumbai Police has since stepped up security as the city is set to host five World Cup Cricket Matches at Wankhede stadium, a police source said. Law enforcement and anti-terror agencies are trying to find the source of this threatening mail.
The agencies are concerned as a similar threat was issued by the Sikhs For Justice outfit last week. The cops are trying to ascertain if the mail was a hoax or if SFJ was behind it. Intriguingly, Bishnoi was on the radar after he claimed responsibility for killing the Sikhs For Justice Leader Sukha Duneke in Canada two weeks ago. Viewed from the threat angle, the mail could be a red herring, said a source. “We are trying to ascertain the Internet Protocol (IP) address of the sender,” a police officer said
The Threat Mail
On October 5, 2023, the city police control room received an alert from the NIA stating that a threat mail was received. The email read: Tumhari sarkar ne hume 500 crore aur Lawrence Bishnoi chahiye Nahi to kal hum Narendra Modi ke saath Narendra Modi stadium ko bhi uda denge. Hindustan be sab kuch bikta hai to humne bhi kuch kharid liya hai, Kitan bhi secure kar lo, humse nahi bach paoge agar baat karni hai to is mail pe hi baat karna.”
(We will blow up Narendra Modi and the Narendra Modi Stadium if the government does not give us 500 crores and Lawrence Bishnoi. Everything sells in Hindustan (India) so we have bought something. About Lawrence Bishnoi
Lawrence Bishnoi is the son of a well-off agriculturist in the sleepy Dhattaranwali Village near Abohar in the Ferozepur district of Punjab. He belongs to the Bishnoi community, which is settled in Punjab, Haryana, and Rajasthan. He is currently in Tihar Jail. He studied till class 12 in Abohar and then shifted to Chandigarh in 2010 to pursue a college education.
Lawrence Bishnoi is already been in jail since 2014 and is believed to have been operating his gang from inside prison. He faces several cases, including the murder of Punjabi Singer Sidhu Moosewala. Last year, Bishnoi claimed responsibility for the attack on the singer. Previously, he had issued threats to Bollywood Actor and superstar Salman Khan from prison, claiming that his community was angry over the actor over the blackbuck killing incident.
