While addressing the 20th Indo-US  Economic Summit organised by Indo-American Chambers of Commerce on September 26, 2023, the ambassador of the United States of America (USA), Eric Garcetti said that India has demonstrated the most successful G20 ever.

He said “India’s marvellous growth, its rapid rise and its leadership in the world today has demonstrated the most successful G20 that we have ever seen, the US Ambassador said.

The main theme of the summit is “Sharing Ideas and Potential For Sustainable Partnership” between India and the United States of America for the next twenty -five years. Speaking at the forum, about the bilateral ties between the US and India, Garcetti said “The goal that we should be establishing, I think together is how can we be more ambitious.

Not just settle for another deal, not just settle for as we have done in the past few months bringing down the retaliatory tariffs and trade disputes between the two countries. But that is not good enough. I think we need to close our eyes and dream of what this relationship can be even more than we can imagine today.

Garcetti on Chandrayaan-3

The US Ambassador also congratulated India on the success of the ISRO Chandrayaan Mission. He said “Congratulations on a marvellous space year here in India. Landing on the dark side of the moon doing something that only four nations have done before it and doing it so beautifully, so reasonably and so successfully. But now we are looking at commercial space together.”

On India-Canada Row

On September 26, 2023, the US Ambassador reiterated that the United States of America (USA) deeply cares about its relationship with both India and Canada. His comments come after and amidst high tensions between India and Canada after PM Justin Trudeau alleged that there was an Indian hand behind the death of Hardeep Singh Nijjar a Khalistani Operative.

“We care about the two countries and we care about their relationship. Our relationship is rock solid with both of them And I think that all of us need to make sure that we can come together as countries take that sovereignty, security seriously and the potential of our relationship,” the  US ambassador said. His comments come shortly after US Spokesperson Matthew Muller said that the US was concerned by Justin Trudeau regarding the death of Hardeep Singh Nijjar in British Columbia on June 18, 2023.

“We are deeply concerned by the remarks and allegations made by Canadian PM Justin Trudeau. We remain in close contact with our Canadian partners as the Secretary said on September 22, 2023, the spokesperson said.

India-US Education Sector

The US envoy to India who was attending the 134th biannual Indo-Pacific Army Chief Conference highlighted that India will probably be the number one source of students from across the world and he stated that the US is anticipating 25 per cent of foreign students just come from India.

“Twenty-five per cent we anticipate of foreign students in the United States of America will come from India. And then second, we are very close to our one million visa applications in India will being adjudicated, will be a brand-new record as well Garcetti said.

On Indo-Pacific Armies Conference

Garcetti said that the IPACC it highlights how close the US and India have become to co-host all the heads of the armies from the Indo-Pacific Region. The US Army Chief of Staff General Randy George on September 26, 2023, said that partnership with the Indian Army and the US Army is vital for stability in the Indo-Pacific and the relationship is growing stronger.

The event will be conducted at Manekshaw Centre, in the Delhi Cantonment and it will be the largest conference for the land forces (army and the marines) in the region. The overall objective of these meetings is to promote peace and stability in the Indo-Pacific region through mutual understanding, dialogue, and friendship.
