The outlawed Communist Party of India (Maoist) has called for the release of senior Maoist leader and member of the all-powerful Central Committee (CC), Sanjay Deepak Rao who was recently arrested by the Cyberabad police from Kukatpally of Hyderabad on Friday, September 15.
In a press note released by the CC spokesperson Abhay, the prescribed outfit while hailing the arrest an example of fascism cited that Deepak Rao was enroute for his treatment of his deteriorating health and he was inframed wrongly for his association with the cause of revolution.
Astonishingly, while criticizing the arrest and invocation of Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA) against Sanjay Deepak, the banned outfit admitted that he has been actively involved in augmenting the party’s ideology since long and was currently holding a position of secretary of ‘Dakshin Sub Zonal Bureau’ of the outlawed extremist group, CPI Maoist, responsible for carrying out several deadly attacks on the security personnel and citizens through his armed wing the People’s Liberation Guerrilla Army (PLGA).
Though, despite the acceptance of Rao’s involvement in the unlawful activities, the outlawed group in its press release alleged that not only the arrest of Rao is an act of fascism but the government agencies and State police have also been implicating false cases against him with malafide intention to deny him bail. The CC of the banned group has also alleged that the police theory of seizure of firearms from Rao is baseless and the allegations are part of the conspiracy hatched by the Hindutva rulers to eliminate those dedicated to the cause of the party’s ideology.
Significantly, the CC of the banned group while once again orchastering their old rhetoric has also made an appeal to the so-called human rights activist and social workers to condemn the arrest of Sanjay Deepak Rao.
Who is Sanjay Deepak Rao?
A B Tech graduate from Jammu and Kashmir Sanjay Deepak Rao is an active member of the all powerful central committee of the banned CPI Maoist. Rao, a resident of Shiv Gandh Nagar under Ambar nath east police station limits of Thane district of Maharashtra has been associated with the banned outfit for long and his father was also a communist trade union leader.
Rao got inclined towards the separatist movement during his college years and co-founded Communist Party of India Marxist-Lenninist Naxalbari group in subsequent years. He was made incharge of the Maharashtra state, Rao was arrested for his unlawful activities and then released in the year 2000. After being released from jail, Rao again started many underground activities and was again arrested in 2005. He came out on bail in 2007 and kept working covetely.
In 2009, Rao started discussion with the CPI Maoist for merger of his CPI ML(Naxalbari group) for which he started visiting Maad division of Abujhmad in Chhattisgarh frequently. Subsequently Rao was included in the CPI Maoists CC when the group was merged into CPI Maoists in 2014. He was given the charge of the secretary of the Western Ghats special Zonal Committee of the CPI Maoist in 2021 and was active in the Western Ghats region since then.
Arrest of Deepak Rao
It is to be noted that Rao has been on the radar of the federal agencies and security forces and was put on human and technical surveillance following which the Cyberabad unit of Telangana police apprehended him from Kukatpally Basti on Friday, September 15

According to the reports Sanjoy Deepak, a member of the all powerful Central Committee (CC) of the CPI Maoist was on his way to meet the general secretary of the outlawed outfit and other fellow members of the CC in Maad region of the Chhattisgarh when he was nabbed on specific Intel by the Cyberabad police.
Maoists appeal to human rights activists
It is to be noted that the banned outfit since its formation has relied upon the support of the so-called human rights activists associated with different frontal groups formed by the party itself to support the cause of the so-called revolution from means other than raw violence.
These activists, some of them are active in Maoist-affected regions while others who are spread across prestigious institutions and other academics across the country have time and again not only lend their unanimous support to the extremist group but have also defined them ‘Gandhians with Guns’ on many occasions.
The group of these so-called activists through their propaganda such as organising seminars, discussions, and publishing books have left no stone unturned in justifying the sheer violence unleashed by the left-wing extremist who vowed to eradicate the democratic process and to install an authoritarian Communist regime through the means of violence.
Many of these so-called activist such as Professor GN Saibaba, Gautam Navlakha, Surendra Gadling, professor Hanny Babu along with others have also been named by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) for their involvement in the Bhima Koregaon violence which erupted after Elgaar Parishad conclave held in Shaniwar Wada of Pune in December 2017. These activists have been charged by the NIA under UAPA for their alleged involvement in the violence and other unlawful activities dedicated to the cause of strengthening the outlawed CPI Maoist.
Additionally a few others activists like Himanshu Kumar, Bela Bhatia, Medha Patekar and others have also repeatedly supported the allegation put up the extremist organisations against the security forces operating in the remote, unexplored tribal dominated regions affected by the left wing insurgency across states, suggesting a broader nexus in place in the Mao’s men war against the Republic of Bharat.
