A 24-year-old man identified as Kapil Choudhary was found dead at a homestay in Dehradun’s Mussoorie on September 9. Choudhary checked into the room with a man and a woman. It has been alleged that Kapil was in an interfaith relationship with Kudrat Bano and she wanted to get married. When Kapil failed to do so, Kudrat with his brother Abdulla slit Kapil’s throat in a hotel in Mussoorie.

The police have arrested both Kudrat and Abdulla for conspiring and executing the murder of Kapil. During the police interrogation, they confessed to their crimes and said they did so after Kapil refused to marry Kudrat.

Notably, Kapil Choudhary, a native of Rurkee and son of a sub-inspector of Uttar Pradesh police, checked into the ‘Roti Chai’ homestay near Bhatta village with his male friend and a woman on September 9. All three had their dinner at the homestay and went to their rooms.

“On September 10, Kapil’s friend and the woman left in the car in the morning at around 6 am. When the staff entered the room in the afternoon, the victim’s blood-soaked body was found under the bed. The throat was slit,” said circle officer Anil Kumar Joshi.

“We have examined the CCTV footage and our hunt to track down two suspects who accompanied the victim at the homestay,” he said, adding that the postmortem of the body was conducted.

Satyakumar Chaudhary, resident of Roorkee Adarsh Nagar, is a sub-inspector in Meerut. Son Kapil used to drive private vehicles. On September 9, Kapil reached Chhairoti Seven Night Home Stay in Bhatta village, Mussoorie by car along with a young man and a woman. All three had booked hotel room number 106. First, all three had dinner in the restaurant, then went to the room to sleep. When the hotel staff came out in the morning, their car was missing from outside the homestay.

When the police interrogated the accused after the arrest, the whole story came out. The accused woman Kudrat told the police that she had met the deceased Kapil in Delhi two years ago. They became friends and over time they became lovers. Both of them had physical relations with a promise of marriage, but when it came to marriage, the deceased Kapil backed out.

The reason why Kudrat and Kapil could not get married was that both of them belonged to different religions, which was not acceptable to Kapil’s family. Due to family pressure, Kapil refused to tie the knot with his girlfriend. Kudrat is a Muslim while Kapil a Hindu.

It is noteworthy that, Kudrat had introduced Kapil to her family as Salman. Although it was known in Kapil’s house that Kudrat was from a different religion, due to which the family members refused to marry him, Kudrat could not tolerate this and hence conspired his murder.

While all three were in the hotel, when Kapil was asleep, late at night Kudrat and Abdullah killed Kapil by slitting his throat. They also hid his body under the bed and fled in Kapil’s car.
