G20: Delhi traffic police enforces comprehensive plan ahead of summit; virtual helpdesk to be unveiled soon

For the upcoming G20 leaders' summit, the Delhi Traffic Police has orchestrated meticulous preparations for a seamless experience for dignitaries and the public alike. Complementing these efforts, a collaborative initiative between the Delhi Police and traffic-mapping services will unveil a virtual help desk.

New Delhi:  As the G-20 leaders’ summit approaches, the Delhi Traffic Police has put in place meticulous arrangements to ensure seamless travel for both dignitaries and the general public. To enhance this effort, the Delhi Police is set to launch a virtual help desk in collaboration with traffic-mapping services. This interactive platform will facilitate real-time tracking of VIP movements and the regulation of traffic across the national capital.

Special Commissioner of Police, Traffic, SS Yadav, announced the forthcoming launch of the virtual help desk. He emphasized that the traffic restrictions would be adaptable, with the dynamic police force ensuring smooth traffic flow throughout Delhi. Yadav emphasized the significance of the G-20 summit in India’s history and urged citizens to play their patriotic role in ensuring the event’s success by utilizing Metro services, planning their journeys in advance, and have  sufficient time in hand to prevent any inconvenience.

What role will virtual help desk play?

The virtual help desk, set to be introduced, will provide a comprehensive array of information to the public. This resource will showcase available routes, details of public transport-specific maps, and other essential information for travelers, contributing to their ease of navigation during the event.

Highlighting the security measures, Yadav revealed that the entirety of New Delhi will be designated as a controlled zone during the G20 Summit, scheduled for September 8th, 9th, and 10th. The traffic authorities have concurrently released a detailed advisory catered to both residents of Delhi and those traveling across the city’s borders.

The traffic restrictions will be enforced from midnight from September 7 until midnight on September 10, marking a period of concerted efforts to ensure the successful conduct of the G20 Summit while minimizing disruptions to daily life. During the G20 Summit, the advisory states that from September 7 to 10, there will be no bus services in the Lutyens’ Delhi area. Commuters are advised to use the metro for commuting during this time.

Here are the details of the rules for the G20 Summit

1. The Delhi Police will establish a helpdesk to provide information about available modes of transport and medical facilities nearby.
2. No restrictions will be imposed on ambulance movement and essential services.
3. No buses of any kind will be allowed to operate in the New Delhi area. However, people can utilize the metro service as a viable alternative.
4. Those residing in the Lutyens’ Delhi area or tourists staying in the region’s hotels will be permitted to use taxis or autorickshaws for transportation.
5. Travelers arriving at Lutyens’ Delhi area from Delhi Airport will be granted entry only after proper ID verification.
6. Interstate buses will be allowed to enter Delhi but will not be permitted to stop at the interstate bus terminals.
7. For ambulance services, people can call 6828400604. This service will be launched on the night of September 7th.
8. A total of 10,000 police personnel will be deployed for the summit taking place on September 9th and 10th at the International Convention Centre in Pragati Maidan. Their main responsibility will be to manage and streamline traffic flow.

The G20 summit is being held in New Delhi on September 9 and 10 and the Indian government is leaving no stone unturned to ensure that the summit happens without any hindrance owing to the presence of international dignatories.
