Bihar’s Motihari saw eruption of violence on the occasion of Nagpanchami. According to the reports, stones were pelted by a group on the Mahaviri Jhanda Yatra and several people were injured. The pattern of violence was alsmost simiolar to what had happened on July 31 in Haryana’s Nuh.

The violence spread to nearby districts of Motihari and property worth crores of rupees was destroyed. Reports in the media claim that at least a dozen people were injured. The miscreants targetted the Mahaviri Jhanda Yatra at Pipra village of Motihari.

How did the violence erupt?

The manner in which the stones were pelted at the yatra, refreshed the memories of the people of the recent Nuh violence wherein the attack was carried out in a coordinated manner. The videos that have gone viral reminded the stark reality of the Nuh violence as the stones were pelted from rooftops at the Mahaviri Jhanda Yatra.

One of the victims of the violence told the media persons that it was evident that a conspiracy was hatched beforehand to carry out the attack in a synchronised manner at the procession. Stones were pelted when the procession passed through a particular locality. Policemen who accompanied the yatra, they too faced the brunt of stone pelting.

However, the police quickly swung into action and brought the situation under control and now they are looking to nab the culprits.

Other places in Bihar where violence erupted

Apart from Motihari, other places where similar attack were carried out are at three places in East Champaran district and in Bagaha. The miscreants indulged in vandalism and they destroyed property worth crores.

Last month in Nuh, communal clashes had taken place and in it six people had lost their lives. More than 200 people were arrested and the videoes that emerged in the social media showed that a large group of people were hidden in the hill top and they attacked the devotees as well as the people who had taken part in the shobha yatra.

Chief Minister of Harayna, Manohar Lal Khattar had said that conspiracy could not be ruled out in the Nuh violence and stringent action would be taken against those who were involved in it.
