Imphal: After over three months of disorder, the last ten days are quiet in Manipur, bringing hope for the people of the trouble-hit State. Manipur police informed that heavy security arrangements had been made in the fringe and sensitive areas in both hill and valley districts. In the past week, no gunfights and unwanted incidents have been reported from the worst affected Churachandpur and Bishnupur districts. Churachandpur SP Karthik Malladi said that the security situation in the fringe areas is quite stable. It has improved with the help of public corporations and the deployment of good numbers of security forces. There have been no gunfights, violence and provocation incidents in the sensitive areas of the district for the last ten days. SP Malladi further informed that many central security forces had been deployed in the sensitive zones, regularly frisking and checking day and night. Joint checking points have been set up in fringe areas by central security forces and Manipur police.
Additionally, SP Malladi added that the Nakas have been operational since August 17 to root out miscreants with weapons. He further warns the miscreants not to roam with weapons as strict instructions have been given to take stern action against anybody found wandering with weapons. The joint Nakas is set up to stop illegal weapons and narcotics movements. It should be mentioned that security forces have launched special joint operations in Churachandpur and adjourning areas to recover over 400 weapons and thousands of ammunition from state police during the violence in the district. Meanwhile, the central government has deployed 15 companies of CAPF and ten columns of Assam Rifles and Indian Army in the community, and the Manipur police to restore peace and normalcy.
Meanwhile, Search operations were conducted by security forces in the fringe and vulnerable areas of Imphal West, Bishnupur, Kakching, Kangpokpi, Churachandpur and Thoubal districts in which 01 (one) arm and two guns (Pompi) were recovered on August 17. 125 Nakas/ Checkpoints were installed in different Districts of Manipur, both in the hill and the valley. The Police detained 1485 persons concerning violations of laws and restrictions framed by the security forces.
On August 16, 8 firearms and 112 rounds of ammunition were recovered from different districts of violence-hit Manipur during search operations by security forces, Police said. Besides the forces also seized six explosives during the search operations. The recoveries were made from Bishnupur, Churachandpur, Tengnoupal, Kangpokpi and Imphal West districts, the Police said in a statement. Along with the arms recovery, six bunkers have been dismantled in the Tengnoupal district by the security forces, Police confirmed.
