In a major blow for the outlawed Communist Party of India (Maoist) Pramod Mishra, a senior politburo member of the Maoist outfit was arrested with his associate in Gaya on Thursday, August 09. According to the information received, a special team of Gaya police nabbed Pramod Mishra along with Anil Yadav from Tikari region of Gaya.

Information was being received about the movements of Pramod Mishra and Anil Yadav in the Tikari Subdivision of Gaya district with an intention of carrying out a big attack. Following the intel a special team was constituted who after verifying the intel raided and arrested Pramod Mishra and Anil Yadav, informed Gaya police in a series of tweets on Thursday.

It’s been reported that Mishra was arrested from Jarhi tola of Tikari block where he had arrived to meet a relative. His associate Anil Yadav is a resident of Asruian village under Latua police station of Gaya. Both of them are wanted accused and several cases are pending against them, they are being interrogated, said police.

Pramod was considered the man behind the brutal Dumaria massacre of Gaya in 2021 where four members of a family were killed and hanged while the houses of the victims were set ablaze by the members of People’s Liberation Guerrilla Army (PLGA), armed wing of the proscribed CPI Maoist.

Mishra joined the left wing insurgency in 90s when the Maoist movement in the state was at its peak. He rose to the rank in Maoist Communist center (MCC), a ruthless extremist group responsible for widespread bloodshed in the region. Mishra was promoted to the central committee of the newly formed CPI Maoist after the merger of MCC and People’s War Group in 2004. Later on he was promoted to the politburo of the CPI Maoist and was considered a seasoned member of the all powerful committee of the Ultras.

Mishra, a resident of Kasma village under Kasma police station limits of Aurangabad was arrested by the police in 2008 and was put up behind the bars before he was acquitted of all charges in 2017 due to lack of evidence. After his acquittal Mishra reportedly spent some time at his village following which he went untraceable.

The arrest of Mishra has come at a time when the Maoist insurgency in the state is dying its natural death due to persistent efforts put by the police and the paramilitary forces in recent years.
